Question for the college kids

How are parties organized these days? I'm so old that parties were organized via 8.5" x 11" flyers posted all over campus. Usually starting a week in advance for a big party. These were often works of art and somebody may have spent a fair amount of time designing the flyer.

What to fraternities etc do these days to get a party going?

Social media, word of mouth, texting. In that order from my experiences.

My college holds an annual "golf party." 18 houses in a row off campus have a keg or two and some specialty drinks and usually the object is to take a shot at each house. Students wake up around 10am on a Saturday and get dressed in their best golfing attire. Thousands of students go to one house (backyard) at a time and when the liquor is finished, students migrate to the next house/"hole". No one makes it to the back 9 usually.

Word of mouth and texting was enough for the biggest college party I have ever seen or heard of:

  • An entire floor in our dorm (approximately 40 rooms)
  • Each room had it's own drinking game/theme (our room was a vodka tasting)
  • Over 150 guests (not including residents of the floor)
  • DJ in the lounge (a no-shiz, professional DJ)
  • 20 cops responding (more than half were no-shiz, real cops, not the campus PD variety)
  • 4 arrests
  • 1 near-stabbing
  • 3 people fired (two RAs and the Resident Life chair for the building)
  • 30 second spot on the news
  • Revision of the housing agreement for the entire university

Hiding from the cops on the 6th floor room of girl I knew all night: priceless.

here is the rundown of the one i did. keep in mind i hatched the idea on a Thrs and the party was a Mon night in the summer.

-3 kegs bought by under age dudes/ transporting of said kegs in truck involved multiple cars for intel and interference

-patrons were charged 3.00 and girls nada

-400 people show

-neighbors down the street called and asked if i had a live band

-drinking games and im sure multiple pro creation going on in the house

-Cheech and Chong movie loop going

-walk in on my dad using a blow dryer on a girls breasts who had spilled beer on them

-walk in on my dad in a circle with some friends passing around some weed

-cops show up and my dad talks to them

-cops show up again and this time I talk to them

-3 sets of people from out of town just happened to drive by. ask me if they can join and i said yes

-someone forgets their motorcycle

-elderly neighbor walks over and before he complains is given large cup of beer by two attractive girls. he saunters back home

-bottle rocket skirmish behind party breaks out. no one was hurt.

-around 11pm mom calls from beach and says they are coming back. my folks were divorced and my dad was being the cool guy.

-after throwing out 15 people who spent the night who i had no idea were, my small crew and i cleaned up as much as possible.

-grandmother walks in and goes to kitchen and opens pitcher for tea and finds 2 beer cans. busted.

-incredibly diverse group of people came together all from word of mouth. no fb or texting or twitter.no fights.

-27 years later still considered one of the best throw downs ever assembled.

    • Im not firm on many things football, but this statement or belief or strategy I am 100% for. Full Offseason the goal is to make the playoffs. Week 1, 1000% I want to win. Weeks 2-10,  1000% I want to win. Until the math stats 0.000000000% chance at NO playoffs, I want to win. *Once* there's no chance at the playoffs, I want to 100% lose every game until the end. You are still loser at 2-15 or 5-12, I want to never lose like this again. I want the best value for losing and suffering. Again the only goal is playoffs. Once in the playoffs anything can happen, I want to win the whole dam show. If you happen to lose in the first round, that's perfectly fine and lets work hard this upcoming off-season to get another chance to make them.  This is the ONLY way to play in the NFL. Anyone not understanding this method of strategy, please call your doctor for a visit...
    • Purdy's good but at the end of the day you're paying first class money for a business class seat.  It's a big problem with the salary cap.  QBs take most of it whether they are Pat Mahomes or not.
    • Purdy saved the 49ers from that three 1st picks for Trey Lance. People forget that. People also forget he should have MVP votes for the 23 season. He's been any where from the 8th(his best/23) to 14th ranked QB, he's legit and guys around top 10 get paid as QBs.....guys in 28th get paid too, he's 4x the QB Trevor Lawrence is and better than BY by miles as well...even without CMC, Samuel(whos a RB playing WE), and half the OL.    *BUT*    You non-believers missed this ultra important mistake that honestly made me reconsider all the praise I gave him. https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/49ers-qb-brock-purdy-throws-blind-40-percent   That's is damming to my case and reset my thinking of his. That's nuclear scary now and I need some time.  too honest for me to overlook.
