My camp thoughts after today. Expect a conservative, run offense.

Recommended Posts

I remember when I played sports and a large segment of practice was on just one aspect of the game.

If you guys think that Shula, Rivera and Gettleman are not gonna let Cam do his thing than lol.

every practice i've been to has been primarily focused on a few aspects.

you can't look at one practice and gauge the whole scheme and mindset for the season. one practice is not a microcosm of everything you are going to do. it's only an indicator of something that you may do or one aspect of many that needs development.

exactly. I was a pitcher in college, some days we would work on only fastball/changeup  other days sliders/curves.

Some days we would just work on count situations other days we would just work on fielding.

This OP's thoughts are just a brief glimpse into the entire process of training camp.

All the offense needs to do is possess the ball as long as possible. Dominate time of possession. I know many wont agree with me, but if I had to choose to score TDs in just a couple minutes, or just score FGs but possess the ball for nearly a full quarter. Im taking FGs all day long along with dominating time of possession.  I dont mind if the final score is 6-3 us.  Thats one thing i didnt like about Chud, he hated that football. He wanted to score way too fast and all that does is A. risk interceptions and B. tire out the defense because we would score so fast the D is right back out there.

Im a big fan of ground and pound  fox ball, I hate shootouts.

You do realize, that the one of the main problems of the Panther offense last year was, "they didn't have the ball enough times"? Advanced statistics illustrate this.

I have no problem with Cam and the offense having numerous opportunities to score, even if it means they score quickly at times.

Last year, the defense allowed teams to march up the field in 6-12 minutes, and eventually score, which gave the Panther offense less possessions to make up the deficits. Conversely, the Panthers had many early leads, which they lost, due to the slowing down of the offense, which allowed the opposition to catch up.

Unless the defense is truly lights out: It's a New NFL, where no lead is safe. You gotta score!

We don't have a road grading OL.

We have a 30 yr old and injury plaqued 1-2 punch now at RB.

That isn't the formula to play ground and pound. Not to mention a weak secondary in a passing league expected to keep points down.

And above all.... the best two offesivne players are a QB and WR.

And don't forget Olsen, who's coming into his own, and may have a break out season this year.

Why would the OP think the offense will be conservative, after seeing one early practice; with Gettleman as GM (think NY Giants), and the fact that the team has been practicing a no huddle, up tempo offense, which they talked about implementing? Shrugs.

Now, If "conservative" means more traditional sets, as opposed to read option; yes. However, I don't think it means, less passing, or big plays on offense. That's what Got Rivera in trouble [conservative], and losing games and leads in the first place.

Post, like this; tell you more what the OP wants, than what he/she actually saw or knows during that one practice.

I personally think the offense will be more balanced.

It will be somewhere in between what Fox ran and what Chud ran.

I can't bring myself to draw any conclusions about what our offensive philosophy will look like after a few days of camp.

We could get more information about that from the guarded coach / GM interviews than we could the drills we see on the field right now.

This offense should use the run as a way to set up the pass. Get those LB's and safeties creeping toward the line, drop the play fake and watch smitty get behind the secondary from the slot. That or watch Olsen destroy teams on that 10 yard out pattern. Safeties and linebackers become concerned with that...baammm!! Pistol handoff to DWill for a 20 yard gain. Rinse Repeat Win.
