Gettleman on Cam "It's time to start winning"

Why talk about a contract when the only three letters that matter is W-I-N? Why pay him if he can't lead us to glory? Tampa isn't going to pay Freeman. At the same time, a swiss cheese secondary and no name receivers aren't going to help Cam.

If we fail this year it's not on Cam, it's on Rivera.

Let the season play out before we start assigning blame...if any blame is to be given.  If we fail this year it's going to most likely be a team effort, on the field and on the sidelines...and in the FO.

Detroit paid Matt Stafford, why? Because he is obviously better than Kevin Kolb or any other now journeyman career players and he gives them the best shot to win. Fact of the matter is Cam is a star on our team and will not be able to leave Charlotte. Give gettleman a few drafts and I believe we will built for consistency. Not to say we can't win now but all those close losses are because lack of consistency because we just don't have the talent everywhere we need it.

We have as good a shot to make the playoffs as the Cowboys or Redskins right now, we just need to tow the elephant away and focus.

Ehhh...didn't really care too much for his comments.  If we're going to put this on Cam, get him some damn weapons and a o line that can block for him.  We are in some serious trouble if something happens to Smith, and we have to depend on the scrubs we have at WR.  Still shocks me that we haven't gotten Cam any offensive weapons since he was drafted 2 seasons ago.

If we don't win, then Rivera will be replaced, not Cam. If the next coach can't win with Cam, then maybe Gettleman will start looking for a new QB. Assuming he's still around if that happens, that is.

NFL history shows new coach means new QB in 2 years. They all want their guy. Exceptions have win rings prior to coach change.

If anything G-Man is sticking up for his boy...it's easy to take the comments out of context what I gather from the statements are with everyone riding RGIII's and Andrew lucks jocks, Cam has gotten lost in translation despite putting up better numbers due to our poor records the past 2years....he's simply saying in not so direct a tone everyone will shut up when he wins

I agree with your sentiment, but can't get past the profile pic. Good googly moogly, Aggie, those two grey moons...

Franchise QB's make the players around them better. Brady and Brees make avg WR's look elite.

Can has put up the stats to win the past two seasons. We added pieces this offseason. He is saying that the pieces are there and that the entire team needs to get that sense if urgency to win now....not just Cam.

This team has more than enough offensive weapons. It is time for Cam to lead them to victories......which is exactly what I believe he will do this season.

I certainly hope Gettleman is just saying this for motivational purposes, otherwise it comes off as ill-informed.

Yes, Cam needs to start winning, but he needs a team built around him that he can win with.

Gettleman has done some great things this offseason, but he still pulled a Hurney in bargain shopping for players at positions of need instead of addressing those needs with players who can fill the void immediately - OG, S, CB, WR. True, Rome wasn't built in a day, but I think it's unfair to hold Cam accountable for a poorly constructed team as a whole.

That being said, this feels like (on paper) the best team he's ever went into camp with.

Cam had made us better.....without him we wouldn't of been in every game virtually. We haven't given him enough help.

Our weapons around him are greatly overrated. One reason is a huge chunk of that list has involved RBs making up a huge portion of the list

We have a questionable OL, 1 legit aging WR, and one of the worst secondaries on paper in the NFL heading into the season in a passing league.....he doesn't find himself in a a spot where winning is easy

But how about Jonathan Stewart (5 seasons, 35-45)?  Is it time for him to win?

Or D-Will (7 seasons, 50-62)? Is it time for him to win?

Or Ryan Kalil and Charles Johnson and Jon Beason (6 seasons, 42-54)?

Or Greg Hardy (3 seasons, 15-33)?

Or, yet again (in the minds of many), is Cam the only thing holding this team back from winning?

    • Yeah, if you tune in for any of the remainder of the season you will get what you're asking for. Nobody but yourself to blame. This is a sports franchise of losers, for losers.
    • Here is my take, go ahead and roast me, I'm ok with it, I know where I am. I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet. I will wait until week 4 or 5 before I entertain that option. This game I blame on the coaching staff. Their failure to give reps to the first team during the preseason was reflected in this game. Lets just call this what it is... our preseason warm up game. You could see that the whole team was flat in the first half. Every aspect of the game, the basic fundamentals. Mental errors, missed tackles, timing on routes, they were not ready for this game. Jacksonville is not a great team but you could clearly see their energy level surpassed ours. I do have to give credit to our defense. They did hang in there and kept competing through 4 quarters (minus the 71 yard run). The way our offense played it's a wonder Jacksonville didn't put 40 on us. Positives I saw, (I know, I know), but come on, we still have 16 games. TMAC IS that guy!! Chuba looked good, and overall, our O-line looked good. As bad as Bryce looked at times I do feel like we're a step or two away from connecting with our WR corps. There were plays to be made that were JUST off by a step or two (again, I know). We have talent at WR, we have talent on offense. To me, this game just looked like a team that was not mentally prepared for NFL week one, and less, "oh my god, we're the same old Panthers". Now I get it... a lot of this hinges on Bryce Young and his confidence. If he can erase this and focus on building continuity with these receivers I honestly think we're not going to suck as bad as we did today. XL... IDK, the jury with him is still out, but there is no doubt the kid has mega potential. Our defense, honestly, considering we have a bunch of new guys on that side, they held their own considering the offense could never change the momentum of the game. I am as disappointed as everyone else at another week one poor performance. But I also realize we are STILL rebuilding. Lets just take it week by week right now and see if we have ANY talent that rises to the surface. Because I really do not know what we have talent wise. And that is not just limited to the QB. So, we will see, but I'm not going to call it just yet... just my take. Now fire away! lol
    • Well for one, what other realistic choice is there? Barring a season ending injury, Bryce is the guy for this year. Next year all options are open, but there aren't any other real world solutions for the 2025 season.
