How comfortable are all of you with Garry?

Hangartner's performance did not live up to his salary. That's why he's gone. I have no issue with the move in that regard.

I do, however, believe he was, and is, better than Garry Williams. Though truth be told, I don't think either of them should be starters.

Mind you, it's possible that Hangman gets brought back at vet minimum to be a backup. Not holding my breath on that though.

it to an extent reminds me of the kasay deal only in that it was the right thing to move on from him...the biggest problem was who we replaced him with. that was the mistake there and until proven otherwise, anticipating williams to be anything close to an upgrade at this moment is a mistake.

i hope it's a smokescreen. i'm not sold that it is.

Well that's pleasant. I definitely could have gone without seeing that picture top dawg.

tbh, it was kind of offensive.

having done work with poor kids in third world countries and seeing what they go through daily, i don't see stuff that makes fun of their situation being all that funny. pretty bad taste, imo.

0.1% chance he's the starting RG come Week 1 IMO. Somebody will be signed.

Ron Rivera isn't Fox. If he says they have no plans to sign someone.....he has proven to be pretty upfront IMO.

Starting Garry is about as risky as.....making Byron Bell your RT.

not. and neither are gettleman and rivera. talent comparisons aside, this is the equivalent of cutting cam, losing anderson to the exercise bike, and calling clausen the starter.

gettleman doesn't move without a plan, and we've only seen the first part of it.

It almost seems as if Cam has been set up to fail.....too extreme?

I don't think he is being setup to fail....but I do think Dave isn't about investing much into helping Cam/Rivera. Again, that doesn't imply DG is sabotaging our team. It means, what Ron does this year simply dictates our direction....and that will then dictate if DG goes all in on a Cam offense or goes in his preferred direction. That actually probably IS smart....I would just prefer a GM sold and willing to take the risk on Cam

Per roto:

Garry Williams ran as the Panthers' first-team right guard Thursday.

Veteran Geoff Hangartner, the presumed favorite to open the season as the starting right guard, was released Thursday morning. Williams, 27 later this month, started nine games between right tackle and right guard last season and finished strong, per Pro Football Focus' grading system. Williams is the new favorite at right guard, but the right side of Carolina's line is a glaring weak spot.

So...he graded out strongly to finish? Wishful thinking??? I'll be hopeful.

While that is/was true of Rivera in the past...his ass is on the line this year, and early. If he doesn't win (aka, protect Cam), while breaking in a new offensive coordinator, who seemingly wants to run the ball more, upgrading an aging and rather mediocre OL should be a priority.

They may stand pat and obviously know more about the situation/players than I,  but if Rivera likes his job, they will be signing someone with the cap space Getts created.
