Just read in the Observer that Rivera said they were going to "sign him back and place him on injured reserve."  Apparently the coaches liked what they saw in him and want to see what he can do after he recovers from his back injury.

Whenever a player is waived/injured, they have to go through the waiver wire, and if they clear waivers, then they are signed back with the team but placed on IR.

good news going from the #1 pick to being cut before his 1st preseason game to being resigned and IR.

 

he will still get paid more then playing in Canada, all rookies get $390K and in Canada top players get $150- $200K

A win/win situation for both parties. He's got some raw talent but with our depth at DT (when's the last time you could say that?) he would not have made the team.
