OK, it's a little early but I'm not so sure we need Hixon. And, how 'bout Gettis?

Ehh, I don't know about that. The same could be said for Gettis. I've seen both in action. Hixon always just seemed like a solid #3 when healthy to me, but nothing spectacular.

I just think he's given too much credit and Gettis isn't given enough for what he did as a rookie. And I wouldn't consider Gettis injury prone either. He's a 3 year vet who missed one season due to injury and then apparently sat out most of last year because he doesn't appear to be one of Rivera's guys.

I think that's the thing that bothers me most if it comes down between the two. Hixon is a known commodity who has pretty much hit his ceiling at this point, whereas Gettis is younger and has more years ahead to grow... And again, his rookie numbers were as good as Hixon's best.

I just get the feeling that Gettis isn't preferred by Rivera for non-football reasons. Remember the argument people caught on the sideline last year between he and Rivera? Then Gettis was deactivated pretty much every game after. I've heard Gettis described as "weird," "awkward," and/or "different" before, and I think that description usually always coincides with a coach designating that guy as "not being a football player."

Just my assumptions, but I don't think Gettis has been given a fair shake by Rivera and it would piss me off if we cut him in favor of Hixon based off of favoritism, not actual play on the field.

Sounds like Brandon Lloyd.

Pilares is out unless he does some amazing poo the next two games (or three if he makes it pass 1st cuts).

You just may get your wish, though Adams has a collegiate history of being more electric than Hixon.  Hard to say that Adams is JAG at this point. Hixon, not so much.

Gettis has basically had one injury in his pro career.  Hixon has had several.  Also, as has been alluded to, Gettis put up Hixon-esque career numbers in his rookie season, and the eye test (along with below average QB play that year) leads one to believe that Gettis has more upside.

Although there are a couple of guys around here that like Pilares, I just don't see any justification for him being on the team this year. He gone.

5 spots are filled IMO

Smitty - (Smitty)

LaFell - (#2 Locked)

Armanti - (Great camp, players/coaches praised him)

Hixon - (Gettleman isn't getting rid of his signing/NYG guy)

Ginn - (Returner, FA, not going anywhere)

The 6th spot goes to Gettis or Adams. I've been a fan of Adams based on his return potential, but with Barner and Ginn some of that luster is lost.  If Gettis has a couple more nice games, keep him. I wish we could carry 7 WR this year, but I don't see anyway we do.

Pat Y continually mentions (even tonight) about Gettis having an uphill battle, which means his people in the Panthers org have told him that and that leads credence to him not being a Rivera guy.

For what it's worth, the coaching staff gave him a lot of opportunity tonight and he capitalized on it. I'm rooting for him.

In what world did Pilares hold his own? Completely uninspiring KR return as usual, straight ahead at average speed into the first gunner. As a WR he had 1 easy catch and one slant where he completely blew it and wasn't even paying attention to the ball as it zipped right by him.

that throw by Clausen was behind him .. although I agree he should've been looking for the ball ..

Otherwise .. I didn't say he played spectacularly .. I said he held his own .. he didn't make any mistakes and looked more confident ..

can't understand how you could say anything negative regarding his performance .. it was decent .. he held his own

You people are crazy. A case can made that Hixon could end up being our 2nd WR. He really showed out last year and made a ton of great catches when NY's starter went down.

Hixon will make this roster over Pilares and Adams. Adams is expendable with Barner and Ginn.

Gettis will make the team as well rounding out 6 WRs

Adams has a history of being in Rivera's dog house. He is not going to make it solely as a punt returner and he hasn't shown anything as a WR.
