Could Gettis challenge Lafell?

I always believed your starting receivers should be able to block.  So Lafell being a good blocker, if he's a good blocker, doesn't mean much to me concerning having that number two spot locked down.  Now I know not every team have two elite receivers on their squad.  Yet my thinking concerning a number 1 and 2 receiver is that they both have the ability to take over games.  That while your number one should be able to consistently put up big games, your number two should be able to put up big games on occasion throughout the season.  Lafell will never have a big game.  That's why his best position would be the number three spot.  To say Lafell earned the number two, is like saying Capt. Munnerlyn earned the number two cornerback spot.  If they have those spots, it's by default, not by skill.

At this point, I don't think Gettis is quite as complete a receiver as LaFell.  That may change, but that's how I see it now.

Gettis is, however, an ideal number three; the kind of guy that can just run downfield for a deep ball or to help clear out the underneath.

He should be considered yet. Gettis should be the third option and used to put Smith and Olsen in high percentage situations. Take the pressure off of Cam a bit.

I have been given time to cool off now though and after looking at Cams preseason stats from this and last year, I'm no longer concerned.

I don't know if he is setting a trend or not by not coming on until late in the season which is a problem. However, we force some turnovers and have good coaching, we will be okay. Cams not the offensive coordinator and is not as far along as some would like in his decision making, but that's where film study comes into play.

What is your reasoning for this?

Gettis runs good routes. Good hands. Bigger. Faster

Yeah I don't think you have to worry. Some of those read options plays Cam would have kept it if it were the regular season. Their weren't many read option plays but the few they ran were designed to give to the back regardless.
