Could Gettis challenge Lafell?

Tell me which catches he made today where he caught something at the top of its peak. How often does Gettis do that?

He's great man I love him but he doesnt make acrobatic catches like LaFell. When I say every level I mean, beyond short intermediate and long range throws. Im talking about the positioning of the ball in the air as well. . . and most importantly, LaFell can make those catches with contact. . one handed.

I aint talking about 1-2 preseason games. I am talking about his career. Go back and watch his rookie season. He made plenty of catches all over the field. He is actually a deep threat, something Lafell isnt.

All around he is better right now he knows the offense more. Has a relationship with cam better at blocking. I think Gettis will be better, but right now lafell would grade out better.

Gettis actually had more time to study the offense sitting out 1-2 years. Not sure id say Lafell knows the offense better. More experience in live games yea. But that doesnt make someone better automatically.

Yes youre right he's a better deep threat but watch where Gettis' catches are made. Watch all 30 something of those rookie catches and tell me how many were above his head. Mostly he will catch it on the pads, but when he goes up in the air he rarely is catching the ball at its highest point. Also take note of how he is mostly just open when he's making these catches and not making them while db's are draped on him.

I will say this about #12, he gets open.

Let it be decided on the field.

It is ironic to me that people who accuse others of saying Gettis is the next best thing to sliced bread are doing the exact same thing when it comes to LaFell.  There is a big difference though:  Like it or not, we know what we have in LaFell. We've seen enough of a sample size the last THREE years.

Oh, I know, his breakout year is this year, right? Queue up last year. That's what you're gonna get.

With Gettis on the other hand, you don't know what you're gonna get, so of course it is more rational to believe that Gettis may be more than we've seen, and the fact remains that he just may.

At this point I am not going to say that one is better than the other, but to think that LaFell is more than just a solid WR who can make spectacular catches on occasion is somewhat delusional. By the same token, to think that Gettis can be better than LaFell is still in the realm of reality, if not just hopeful.

I havent seen anything from Lafell yet to say we should expect anything more than another 50 catch season from him and im not bashing just callin it like i see it, we do have one more pre season game tho but i also want to see Gettis with the starters as well.

I really havent cared about Cam getting the ball to Smitty these last 2 pre season games, i know thats gonna happen. I have been more concerned about the chemistry with Lafell, Olsen and other wr, i wanted to see that improve even more and im not seeing it yet. I almost wish we could just sit Smitty the whole pre season and put the pressure on these guys to produce without him Cam included. We are gonna need it even more this year, its got to get better.

It has been a strange journey for the 2010 WR class.

Gettis came from nowhere to start alongside Smitty for a lot of the year and put up decent numbers. LaFell had some nice grabs too but it was obvious (and still is) he doesn't have homerun speed like Gettis.

Armanti was the project that went south. The strange thing is that most fans (myself included) were at the point of writing both Armanti and Gettis off and they have really stepped up.

Hope all 3 make the roster. Of course LaFell and Armanti will but I feel like Gettis has earned a spot.

LaFell is a quality WR but you can never have enough guys with homerun speed like Gettis does. Especially since Smitty is getting older. Still a great receiver but starting to lose a little homerun speed that he had
