By week 3 against the Giants...

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I expect some signings after week one, but I am bracing for a bad secondary and O line this season.

If that's the case, we will have a new coach next season, and most likely new LT, RT, RG, etc......

We have not drafted well on the O line for a while now.

I'm trying to withhold judgment on the Kugbila pick till I've actually seen him play.

The fact that it's gonna take a while to see that is a big concern, though.

Watch him in the DII title game. ESPNU replays it about once a week. He wasn't very impressive against WSSU. But like you I will try to reserve judgement.

I hate to tell you but anyone we pick up at this stage based on final cuts is not going to be a starter.  He might be a backup but won't be better than who we have.  No, the group you see now is who is going to start this year.

Wanna bet? :)

No I don't need a history lesson on Bridges but you might.  We brought him in last year as a stop gap for our O-line and he lasted 3 games with no starts before we cut him.  He last played for us in 2008 and was cut due to legal charges. He was a starter for us in 2007.

He is a free agent this year as well.

Plus you miss the point that in many years there are a lot of veterans who aren't cut until final cuts because the cap wasn't so tight.  This year many of those vets who wouldn't be cut until final cuts in previous years were cut in the offseason to get under the cap.  There won't as many vets out there getting cut this year.

no don't need all that other mumbo   You made my point for me.  We aquired his services for 2007 and it was good.  I did say one year stop gap.    My point was it is possible to find the answer before the season/ or a game or two in.  It doesn't always happen but JB was the proof that it can happen.

I saw him pull after the snap and completely whiff on his guy because he skipped him like there was a better block on the 2nd level while DWill (IIRC) gets stuffed for no gain.  Could have been a nice 4-5 yarder.

although I'm not saying he's just as bad as Williams.  I do agree he still has a lot of improvement ahead of him.

Yeah I saw that too, and thought Amini did and awful job. In Amini's defense, the guy that came in and blew up  Williams might not have been his man. I haven't re watched the game, but I have a strong feeling the right side of the line was supposed to wash the DTs and linebackers down the line of scrimmage and Amini was supposed to kick the end out. I feel like it was supposed to be more of an outside counter and someone other than Amini fuged up and their man got in the way.

Either way this line needs to get their poo together. I am confident though, its just pre season

I don't.  Gettleman is still a very unknown quantity, so who knows what will happen?

I do wonder what you're thinking on this though.

Chris Snee has been inactive for the Giants this season so far but is expected to make it back in time for the season. That means there are a couple of Giants guards that Gettleman is familiar with who have gotten in extra work this year. Could be tempting for Gettleman should a release happen, or even a trade, if those backups have looked good.

All that mumbo jumbo is the point.  There are not going to be any guys who are cut who are better than what we have.  This year is different than in years past given not many guys are out there and many of those who would have been there are already playing on other teams.

Why is a Giant's backup going to be a starter here?  We might find depth but not a starter.  The only spot is Williams and they like him a lot.

I feel like the Panthers will be picking up one maybe two guards once the cuts are made across the league. There will certainly be veterans cut as room is made for the younger guys. Another team's aging but solid veteran could come here and be a bright spot on the line for us.

Problem with this is that there are so many quality teams right now that need offensive linemen.  Packers, Broncos, Bears, and Cowboys to name a few.

Its going to be slim pickings already, not to mention there will be other teams with a smaller window than we do that need to win now and are probably willing to pay more.

I could see a backup or two signed, but unfortunately I think we're stuck with this starting 5.  The really tough thing is that this line is two years away from being what it needs to be.  Bell and Williams aren't adequate starters, Gross may be gone next year, and Amini isn't showing signs of being a competent starting guard.

The backup to one of the best guards in the league could very well be better than our starter. Garry would not start in NY. Therefore their backup may be compared to him.
