We are going to keep Ginn and Gettis so the argument about who is better is moot.  Both will be here and we can see who plays better in the regular season.

While he may indeed get cut, I think a lot of posters are selling Pilares short.

I can't remember him ever making a bone-headed play, i.e. bad drops, fumbles, etc. Generally he has performed well when the ball is in his hands, although I must admit he is not much of a kick returner. He just has had very few opportunities except as a returner.

Remember the punt to the 1 in the first Atlanta game? The one that should have sealed the win? It was Pilares that downed the ball at the 1. He is really good at that aspect of ST.

Perhaps his biggest knock is he seems to be injured fairly often. But whatever happens, if he gets cut I wouldn't be surprised to see him go elsewhere and be a productive player.

imo salaries will become a factor and joe adams is still on a rookie salary, really no point to cut him now.

It will be a tough decision for the coaches to make but I feel special team value will play into the bottom 2 or 3 spots being we will likely not use them as WRs anyway.At this point I see Ginn as the best returner and a battle between Gettis,Edwards,Ginn, and Hixon as number 3. At this point I could see Pilares making the team because of his special teams play as a gunner and I do not see Adams making the team unless Ginn really screws up as a returner.

 

Ted Ginn-  Front runner for kick and punt returns plus is a fast WR that could possibly open  things up underneath.Questionable hands

 

 Pilares    - Gunner on special teams with back-up value as a returner. He will probably not  see the field as a WR 

 

Hixon -       Gettlemen must like him as a third WR but has been injured. I do not know if he has any special team value.Has been injury       prone throughout his career.

 

Edwards-   Back up value as a returner but has shown something in preseason especially in the slot or a possible 3

 

Gettis-     I think many Panther fans seem Gettis as having the speed and size to to be a number 2 or 3 WR although he has been injured and seemed to be in the Rivera doghouse.He has no special team value and in my opinion will be in a real battle with Hixon for a spot. If it were me I would take Gettis only because I see him as a potential number 2 WR

 

Joe Adams-  Lost the confidence of the coaches last year as a returner and really only has value as returner

You think he's cutting Hixon after he talked him up. Remember him saying he's good because of the leadership and Super Bowl ring he brings? Yea he's not cutting him after talking him up. Gman has a big ego. Hixon will make the roster and I believe he knows it if not he would have been on the field. He's been nursed along for the regular season.

Surely someone on this roster besides Pilares can be a good gunner.  It's not rocket science.

#3  Tackle the guy with the ball.

 

And no offense, but to be a gunner on the Panthers, #3 is optional.

 

 

Who? They also had Hardy as a gunner on punts but I doubt that happens again this year.

If you want to complicate things even further, only half of our receivers are able to play the position completely. I think those first four spots have to go to guys that can do that. Thats Smith LaFell Hixon and Gettis (Maybe AE). Ginn is a luxury player at this point for us.

 

oh yah and again I'll say, you dont just cut 4th rounders from the prior year. Adams will be dealt with some way or another, but I just dont think you can cut him yet. He has very rare running skills so he has value.

Gettis has a list of things he needs to work on as well....

Ginn is still the better overall player to date. Just is. The fact he is legitimately one of the better return men in the league easily prohibits this Gettis is better talk.

Maybe Gettis COULD become better....can't claim he is a better player bc is a couple preseason catches. Ginn also has legit catches and runs he has made....so Gettis' 3 catches in 2010 don't set him apart

If Gettis is not better than Ginn then we have problems. Armanti will be the 3rd receiver, hixon the 4th, Ginn the 5th, and Pilares the 6th. Gettis will be cut and signed by the Pats where he will have a 150 yard game against us( see Thursday night football against Giants) Andre Brown has a spot on the Giants because of us.

Fug it, get rid of Gettis, no more room to wait for him to improve while next season we will have two receivers with more than ten years in the league, one who is productive, one who should be cut in favor of GETTIS.

BTW I am an Armanti fan but I am a Panther fan first. I like Ginn for specific plays, but his height concerns me. Cams throws like to sail and we could use a big receiver to compensate. By the time Ginn jumps and catches the ball he has to start all over again.

Did Gettleman bring him here? He's not going to cut Hixon in favor of one of Hurneys guys. Doesn't matter who it is really. Why would he? He has to have something he can claim credit for. He didn't draft Cam or Luke and most of our core is Hurney made. If he's going to win with Hurneys squad he should have just been brought in to fix the cap and let Hurney pick the players.

We'd be fine without Ginn he has 6 Kick/Punt return TD's in 6 seasons and I'm sure numerous good field position returns but fug give me Mark Jones I wanna keep Hixon who can contribute a whole lot more offensively. If we keep both great.

You put Eli Manning in caps like its a no brainer how good he is. Almost as if Eli is so good Hixon should have done more with him...Eli is not Peyton or Brady he was the beneficiary of a beastly pass rush - good QB not a surgeon though

1 TD and 1 good field possession could have won us 2 games last year.

Gettis has earned the right to run with the first team for the third preseason game.if he can flash then he will make the squad.I bet Hixon runs with the twos since he is a vet and they know what he can do.There is no way we cut Gettis if he plays well.its not luck that he played well those two good games,he has talent.
