Josh Norman, CB, Panthers: Not all that long after losing his starting job as a rookie, Norman has grabbed it back with a strong preseason. He’s leading the league with three interceptions in just two games, and he also has been credited with four pass break-ups. Norman jumped an errant Jay Cutler pass on the Panthers’ first defensive play of the preseason and later in that game went to the house on a second INT.

To go with what RB said, if this team had better safety play we'd be in much better position with our corners. Norman has demonstrated the natural ability to play the position, and has the skillset to become one of the better cover CBs in the league. Since we are so poor at the S position, we are sadly probably going to see the coaching staff go with the "safer, more consistent" play in Munnerlyn this season since we can't risk the occasional Norman burn on a gamble he makes.

If Norman ever had a competent safety behind him he'd probably break the single-season interception record by his third year

Couldn't just say he could be a good corner eh?  Break the single season interception record?  Really?

• Justin Hunter, WR, Titans: Hunter has all of two catches for 14 yards in the preseason following up on a summer in which he’s struggled and been ripped by wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson. The Titans used the 34th-overall pick on Hunter in April, with the expectation being that the talented 6-foot-4-inch receiver would round out a position group that included Kenny Britt and Kendall Wright, among others.

None of those hopes have comes to fruition yet. The silver lining in the clouds is that Hunter still has plenty of time to develop, as teammate Bernard Pollard told The Tennessean: “I can’t wait until Justin Hunter realizes that he is a star. I can’t wait until he realizes that. It is out of control how good that guy could be.”

Can Hunter flip the mental switch before the regular season kicks off?

he was a guy on most of our radars this draft, hasnt started so well in Tenn for him

I wasn't high on Hunter. He wasn't the same after his injury, he was slow, lacked explosiveness, and a close evaluation of his final year showed he compiled most of his production against weak teams while struggling against better competition. He could turn it around, but I'm not surprised at hearing this.

    • There are several posters that only post negative at all times.   8 wins is a big jump from 5 and we still have 2 games.  Jaguars have a much more talented roster than us and have underachieved for years.
    • All of this noise is just setting us up to lose Week 18 and proclaim life's not fair. If there's one thing I know in my 30+ years of watching the Hornets and Panthers, is that the bad guy always wins in the end. A team can be falling apart internally but we will still lose to them. A team's fanbase can be extra shitty and cocky and they will just win anyway. It always happens
    • Well even if we took diverging paths getting there...our overall assessment of Shough is the same (bolded) lol so I guess that's what matters.  What you call "playing at a level that looks like a veteran starter" is the same thing I'm referencing when I talk about his poise.  Although I still wonder how truly "bad" of a team the Saints are.  Their defense is middle-of-the-road, and their offense does have some good pieces (Olave, Juwan Johnson) outside of running back which is the position most everyone agrees is relatively plug-and-play.  I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the majority of NFL team's o-lines lol but I'm assuming Saints are not great there, although Shough's pressure % seems to have been quite low (and steadily improving) over the last four weeks (20 -> 16.7 -> 15.0 -> 13.0) so maybe they've been playing better as of late, or perhaps Shough himself deserves credit for that.   Some of the language I'm hearing about Shough, including talking about how he's way above league average in several categories, makes it sound like Shough is having a rookie season on par with like a CJ Stroud who established himself as basically a Top 5-10 QB his rookie season.  Maybe that's on me though, I don't mean to attribute anything to you that I'm sure you don't agree with.
