The Kuechly Penalty and the Inevitable Future Rule

The rules are just becoming ridiculous and it won't both ways last night....the 3rd down where cam over threw Olsen and Elam gave him a little love tap after was plain ridiculous...I was happy that we got the 15 and the first down, but Coooommmmeeeee onnnnnnn man!!!!!!!

What? He straight up intentionally used his helmet as a weapon and hit Olsen in his helmet, minor contact or not, that was as dirty as it gets.

To lazy to google the names but the defender that took out the Miami TE for the season said the pretty much "If I hit high I get a penalty and a fine if I happen to hit the head so thinks to this rule it makes sense to hit the knees". Sad thing is he is right.

(He did stress he is very sorry the guy got hurt)

I think its funny when fans and players bitch and complain about these rules for two reasons.

1) The only people to blame are not Goodell but all the former players suing the NFL over head injuries.  If someone sued your company for slipping on a wet floor you can guarantee that the next day that there would be all sorts of ridiculous rules regarding the floors.  The NFL's hands are tied and  really the former players are making it worse.  I heard on NFL network Eric Davis said he likes the rules but thinks they should be judgement calls, like holding or pass interference.  I agree.  Imagine if they called holding on every play no matter what.

2) Because regardless of what rules come down (including rules on celebrations) people will still watch including the ones complaining.  And the NFL and Goodell know this.  And if by some chance you do decide to stop watching then you probably aren't the kind of fan they want anyways.

I'm all for player safety, however on plays like Keek's (which could ultimately decide a game), I wouldn't mind having an official upstairs with which the onfield crew could consult.  Only in an instance where there is a disagreement amongts the onfield officials (i.e. last nights play).

In last nights instance for example, the on-field crew could go the sidelines and get the ruling from the booth official on whether the flag should stand or be picked up.

That may pro-long the game, however I would rather them get the call right and take some time in doing so, than see the parade of flags and defenders going low at guy's knees.

The Ravens found that out a few plays later.

Try the NEXT PLAY, Kuechly is so f****** impressive, he's quickly becoming the best player not just on this team, but the NFL. It's kinda crazy that he had a penalty that was called against him then come back the next play and pick the ball off.

Luke will never do anything wrong or outside the confines of the NFL rules, so therefore it wasn't a penalty.

I have a secret source inside the organization who leaked that Luke occasionally throws away things that should have been recycled.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
