Trading Hardy is so logical its almost common sense.

You dont need two stud DEs when you already have one stud DE and strong interior that commands double teams. A slightly above average DE could thrive along side our D line. You dont need to pay mega bucks to two DEs when you already have one stout DE and a strong interior

Who says so?  Why can't we have 2 DE's?  Because other teams don't?

Can't sign on to this.

Me either. The tandem of Hardy and CJ is the icing on the cake of our Dline, with the young men in the middle providing the heavy lifting. Plus, the fire that they play with is special, and I think that comes of feeding off each other's energy. The G man will find an answer for our O line without giving up what has proven to be one of the best weapons in our arsenal.

CJ, Dwan, Star, Short and Alexander. Not to mention the best LB corps in the league (assuming they are healthy). While Hardy is good, we could easily still be a top 5 D without him. Trading Hardy now while he is still hot not only makes sense, but its practicially common sense. We could easily fetch a 1st and 2nd rounder atleast for him now. One of the youngest up and coming DEs in the league who posted double digit sacks last year? Teams would easily give up that plus maybe more for Hardy.

Just imagine what we could do with 4 picks in the first two rounds of the draft. We could draft a stud RT and RG, and a stud CB and safety and oh BTW still have enough cap space to sign a REAL WR in free agency for Cam. I can somewhat understand signing Hardy after the season if he posts big numbers, but signing him now would be foolish. Lets not forget he has been very quiet in pre season so far.

I know we all "love" Hardy, but lets be real. Our D would still be fine without him and if we completely keep ignoring giving Cam help and invest all this in the defense, you can rest assured he will jet when his contract is up. We have done absloutely nothing to help Cam since we drafted him. Mark my words, if we extend Hardy now, he wont post double digit sacks again this year.

I agree with your post until the end when you say he wont be productive in the back field. I'm optimistic about him posting double digit sacks. However I don't think he will bring us 2 picks in the first 2 rounds. Most trades in the NFL just don't bring that kind of return unless you play quarterback.

Games are won and lost and the line of scrimmage. Hardy is emerging as a premier pass rusher who is no slouch against the run. He's young, has a higher ceiling and no injury history compared to CJ.

Trading Hardy makes very little sense unless someone just throws out an unbelievable offer.

Also- Alexander has shown some good, but he's also shown some bad. To just assume he'd replace Hardy in adequate fashion is a bit of a stretch.

Easily a first rounder plus maybe more. Hes only 26 coming off a double digit sack year while he has gotten better each year he has been in the league. If he doesnt have good trade value then I dont know who would

Even the Raiders or Jags would not send us a 1st for Hardy. The man had "one" productive season and he's clearly isn't a top 15 pass rusher. He's no Julius Peppers or even CJ. Hardy is good but IMO he's not capable of being the no.1 pass rusher in this league. A "3rd" is realistic and I'd would take take with no question asked if we sense that Hardy isn't coming back.

Great teams become great teams by trading their best players for draft picks at 25 - said no one ever.

Listen, you're banking on Frank Alexander who is underdeveloped. You just can't get away with that in the NFL. The protection will slide towards CJ and even WITH our two DTs who have been decent..... IN PRESEASON..... you can't expect them to keep blocks off of CJ if there is nobody on the other end of the line who is a consistent challenge to the QB.

Talk to me after this season when we have at least a modicum of an idea if Star is what he appears to be and Alexander can contribute rotationally the way CJ did before he became a starter.

Here is the delimma facing Gettlemen.  We have 3 stud DEs.  We need a WR, G, G, T, CB, S.  If we keep Hardy, we are lookng at 2 DEs consuming almost 20% of the cap.  Do they like Roh and Horton?  Addison?  If so, Hardy is more marketable if signed to a reasonable extension first.

If a team has no rush, the beginning of the season is when you ask for first rounders for next year.  If Gettlemen is considering trading Hardy, he extends him to a reasonable deal before doing so.

I can see getting a first rounder for Hardy if he has a reasonable 4-year deal attached.

Now Gettlemen has 2 first rounders that will fill needs for half of what Hardy is getting.  Imagine a young LT and  a Stud WR.

I love Hardy.  I want him on my team because he is a beast.  But I see the point.

Dont be greedy. What I mean is, would you rather have a top 3 D by keeping Hardy but yet have Cam getting sacked every other play OR, trade Hardy and maybe have a top 6 or 7 D but a stout offensive oine and more well rounded offense? Im taking the latter

we don't need to trade away Hardy to obtain an Oline.
