By now you all have watched the Pittsburgh game, have read the game recap, and know everything you need to know in what is essentially a scrimmage between backup players. You know it all, right? Wrong.

 

There are things that go unnoticed and I am here to bring them in to focus for you. Where others provide the obvious, I will provide for you the subtext.

 

First off, the Panthers may have the most attractive Topcat squad they have ever had. There are quite a few really good looking gals there to get the crowd motivated.

Also, Rocky Proehl is quickly making a name for himself as a coach. Looking at the roster, one could argue the Panthers are in the best position in many years when choosing a wide receiver squad. This may have to do with the talent level brought in, but it also has to do with Ricky. He has the respect of the entire squad, including Steve Smith. During pregame Smith was dancing to the warm up hip hop tunes, trying to get Ricky to crack a smile. You don't see Steve Smith goof off very much, the fact that he will with Proehl is an ultimate sign of respect.

DJ Moore got my respect last night. When Jon Beason went down from a block on a Pittsburgh running play, Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey gave a little extra curricular shoving to Beason after the play was over. DJ Moore wasn't having that, and threw his 190 pound frame into Pouncey's 300 pound frame. Thats how you show your dedication to your team young man.

Yes, Greg Hardy is an animal. Every so often my camera catches a frame that the opposing team would probably be embarrassed about. This is one of them.

AJ Klein looks to be an eventual starter in this league. He looked solid last night in both the run and passing defensive plays. Some say it may be due to his physical capabilities and tenacious attitude. I say it is due to the fact he has a robotic arm, which I am not so sure is completelyfair.

Josh Norman is developing into a shut down corner. He still has much to learn, but has the physical tools needed to succeed at a very high level. One thing I was noticing last night was his reach. Norman appears to have an insane wingspan. This is a huge advantage, allowing him to play much taller than he actually is. I would imagine his wing span is somewhere around 6'3, despite what Leonardo Davinci says it should be on his 6 foot frame...

Armond Smith had a rough night and may not make the squad. I think he has potential due mainly to his speed which cannot be coached. His fumble, while unfortunate, was not all that bad. It was a great play by the Pittsburgh defenders. Armond wraps the ball up pretty well while running. I would not expect fumbling to be a common theme with this kid.

So thats it. Preseason is over and we can all get in to regular season mode now. There are still many questions to be answered about this Panthers squad. For the first time in many months, they will now start to be answered in definitive fashion.

She is my fav. for sure. But that's just me.

Nice write up Zod. And I agree on Ricky. I think he's a X-factor with the WR's that nobody is really noticing.

Noticed at the Bears game, the Top Cats are much better looking this year...and BOOBS! A number of them are packing some serious heat compared to years prior.

 

The new uniforms show them off for the first time ever.

this has the makings of a good year on many fronts.

 

topcats are looking better than i can remember.

STs are looking good.

WRs have moments of looking solid.

the secondary seems to be playing well thanks to the pass rush up front. they seem to be able to capitilze on a lot of forced throws.

injuries have been relatively low compared to previous years and other teams right now.

 

speaking of which, zod, fowler said yesterday that stewart was grimmacing in pain with even the slightest exertion and he didn't think think that he'd be back. were you noticing stewart doing that b/c it seems most pics i saw when he was moving around had him smiling and even on the sidelines it showed him moving around pretty easily. was fowler making it into a bigger deal or has stewart looked like he's in a lot of pain?

      Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.

      Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.

      I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
