seahawks observations and my prediction

Just caught the 1st quarter of Seahawks -Raiders. Here is what I think we'll need to beat them

Hit Russel Wilson and hit him early. Even if he gets rid of the ball, we need to ring his bell (legally of course) a couple of times and knock him off his rhythm - and we finally have the defense that can do that. He strikes me as a more accurate Vick with a better pocket presense too, but still don't care how calm he is back there. He is still a 2nd year player. We can knock him off his game if we rough him up early. Don't care how we do it: a spy, a blitz, our front 4...just fugg up #3 without drawing a flag. Also if we try to throw any fancy blitzes, we better make sure they get there

Our DTs and DEs: especially the rookie DTs. Remember the fundamentals. Put your hands up if the passrush doesn't get there. You're playing against a 5-11 QB.

Run defense. They didn't play Marshawn lynch today, but that'll be a huge test for our rookie DTs. If we can frustrate Wilson and make them a running team, we can stop Lynch later in the game.

Offense: I am impressed by their defense, but guess what. We have speed too that goes by the name of Ted Ginn. He needs to keep working his magic and he is the wild card in a game like this. I am sure they will have Sherman on Smitty, but I don't expect Smitty to be affected by Sherman's mindfuggs. If anything, he may fire up Smitty and unleash the beast wearing 89. Another wildcard is Ace Boogie. He needs to make some plays with his feet and pick up some 1st downs and try not to force any throws on that secondary. Also he needs ti have a short memory and keep calm even if he throws picks. We really miss Stewart. He is just the kinda back you need against a defense like Seattle. May be give Tolbert some carries.

Special Teams: Again, Ted Ginn. I have a feeling we may kick a few FGs too, so we need Gano to hit em all. Ted Ginn will be a difference maker on special teams as well as offense if he sees the field.

We win a defensive battle. That's my prediction

i'm really hoping for a defensive performance reminiscent of our outing against the redskins... tons of hype for RGIII, everyone counting the panthers out, and boom, keek and company come out and slobberknock him, get him out of rhythm early, constantly pressuring him and occasionally allowing him to escape the pocket and run for first down yardage but keeping him uncomfortable for four quarters of play.

early pressure is key, especially for a young guy without a ton of experience to fall back on. rattle him and we may put some points on the board.

Read option, screen plays, sweep plays, Cam at WR with AE throwing to him, Smith in the slot and move him around, Ginn on go routes, designed runs for Cam, bootleg, play action pass and really sell it, short passes to Tolbert. I think we win this one if our offense can have a decent game.

Seahawk D is pretty fast. Sweeps, read option, etc aren't useful until we beat them down and give them reason to hesitate committing to run blitzing.

My .02

Seattle playcalling last year was 55% run, 45% pass.

The offensive weapon they brought in to balance their attack is out due to a torn up hip. Their leading receiver last year went to Switzerland to have an experimental procedure done on his knees. If I was a professional ball player, I wouldn't want somebody experimenting on my knees unless I was desperate.

Christine Michael, their first pick in the draft, is a back-up to Lynch.

Jessie Williams, massive rookie DT from Alabama, is on IR. Chris Clemons, their best DE for sacks, is recovering from ACL surgery. Bruce Irvin, their 2012 top draft pick that led all rookies with 8 sacks, is suspended for the first 4 games.

Throw in that they're playing the Niners next week as their first home game and can easily overlook us since they did beat us last year in Charlotte. This game is looking very winnable if our new & improved front 7 can stop their run game. Ultimately, I think it comes down to who wins the Steve Smith vs. Antoine Winfield matchup in the slot.

I agree, last week Green Bay put some hits in on Wilson and it caused him to make terrible judgment and it cost him to interceptions. Greg Hardy's punishing hits remind me of what Ndamakong Suh does to opposing QB's just with out the illegal stuff... So Wilson could get hurt by this front 7 very easily, but obviously I don't wish that on him.. Hell.... Lotulelei could fall on Wilson's small frame and do serious damage.

I also have a feeling Ted Ginn might be a big help.
