Shula vs Quinn - A matchup of first year coordinators

One thing not being discussed is the fact that first year Panthers Offensive Coordinator Mike Shula will be going up against first year Seahawks Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn.

The Seahawks had much defensive success last season under Gus Bradley, now head coach of the Jaguars.

Seahawk fans seem to think it is a forgone conclusion that no drop in play will be experienced on defense. However, it is highly probable that losing a top tier defensive coordinator will indeed have an effect.

This coaching matchup is a huge question mark. No one really knows how effective either will be in their new role.

If we come out throwing and keeping the Seahawks off balance we can dictate the pace of the game. Try and get some three and outs on defense. I think if we play our brand of football on both sides of the ball we will be in the game at the end. Only this year I believe Cam will make the throw and the defense will hold.

Why isn't this being talked about more

What? A point of weakness in the Seahawks impenetrable armor? The players the Seahawks have on D are incapable of failure needing no coaching whatsoever. You and I could walk on to the field with an inflatable Motorola headset and pretend to call defensive plays and they would still be the greatest of all time. We are dealing with demigods here, DEMIGODS I TELL YOU!!!

    • Where does Dan rank? https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/football/news/rotopats-2026-nfl-gm-rankings-analysis-for-all-32-teams 22. Dan Morgan, Panthers "What do you do when you have a questionable quarterback situation? Build out everything else. Although he has used each of his three first-round picks on offensive help for Bryce Young, Dan Morgan is in the middle of a two-year spending spree on defense. The off-field cash infusion led to immediate, massive on-field gains in 2025, with Carolina improving from 32nd to 16th in scoring defense. Morgan has now added EDGE Jaelan Philips and linebacker Devin Lloyd to the mix. Every little bit helps, but there is only so much you can do if you lack a long-term answer under center. For now, Morgan has equivocated when asked if Young will remain with the team following the expiration of his rookie contract. If Young’s year-over-year improvement remains modest or plateaus in 2026, it won’t be because Morgan hasn’t done everything he can to make his life easier. He has used first-round picks on a No. 1 receiver and potential long-term left tackle. He has invested in the backfield and improved the skill player depth. Morgan is making the best of an imperfect situation. That’s all he can do, but sometimes there is nothing you can do to keep your job in the NFL if the quarterback — or owner — doesn’t cooperate."
