The Wonderful World of Greg Hardy (ESPN article)

Asked how he came up with individual nicknames for "MonStrz Inc.'' -- a play on "Monsters, Inc.'' to hopefully avoid potential legal issues with the Disney Pixar animation: "I am really talented.''

On the player introduction dance he unveiled during Thursday's preseason finale: "I'm experimenting. That's just my hybrid engine mode.''

The potential is there. But so far Hardy has given nicknames only to the defensive front. In case you missed it, Hardy is known as "The Kraken."

The rest: DE Charles Johnson: Loch Ness; DT Dwan Edwards: Phoenix; DT Star Lotulelei: Hydra; DT Colin Cole: Big Predator; DE Mario Addison: Gargoyle; DE Frank Alexander: Leviathan; DT Kawann Short: Minotaur.

If you dig through his tweets, a must follow for Panthers fans, you'll find a picture of a Hardy T-shirt that says: "KEEP CALM and RELEASE THE KRAKEN.''

It really is a weird situation right now with Pat Y still being the NFC South guy along with doing the team reporting for the Saints, Bucs, and Falcons with our new guy David Newton handling the Panthers.

I think the plan is to have separate guys also for the Saints & Falcons (just not hired yet) and Yaz will be the Bucs guy and still handle the NFC South blog.  Seems like a conflict of interest though.

I don't he is going to poo on the Bucs since he is their team reporter (and I bet little ole Yaz is scared of Greg Schiano).  And of course, the Saints & Falcons are his teams so he is going to poo on us.

Since they are going the route of having a guy cover every team, just think they should reassign Yaz and has someone else do the NFC South overall or hire a Bucs guy

We gotta lock this guy up.  I know Keek gets a lot of credit, but I feel like Hardy and his attitude was a huge reason for that defensive turnaround last year.  I don't know what the fug happened to him last year, but the light bulb came on big time.

I remember he was crying after the Chicago game and, while it sucked we lost, it was awesome to see how much he really cared to go along with his performance.  The dude just had the best game of his career, yet here he was crying because we couldn't seal the win.

He instantly became one of my favorite players after that... and it didn't hurt that he kept getting more and more vocal as the season went on.

If we lose this Hardy I'ma be pissed.  Players with his mix of talent, passion, and crazy don't come around very often.

Clock's ticking on that new deal. Other team's have the same idea, too, with Sean Lee and Brian Cushing getting extensions. Hope it's done before game time.

    • But that's the point, if the locker room feels that way, then you're going to upset them by still keeping Bryce around and playing him over the Top 10 pick, as opposed to bringing in a vet to start until the rookie is ready. Again, it goes one of 3 ways... 1. Bryce plays well enough to earn an extension 2. Bryce still sucks and we draft his replacement who starts Week 1 with a new QB as his backup 3. Bryce still sucks, we draft his replacement in the 1st, but they start the season backing up a new vet QB who was brought in to be his mentor. With an OUTSIDE chance at a 4th option where Bryce plays well enough to convince the team to let him play out the 5th year option and then make a decision.  Which I can't see it happening, but there is still a non zero chance of that happening I guess. The only way we draft a QB next year and still have Bryce on the roster, is if we're taking someone in the middle rounds hoping to develop them as a long term backup to Bryce.
    • I hear you. But I am not absolving Legette just because he is from my neck of the woods or anything else.  Tge comment was more about the fans uneven application of blame.  I do agree that there is a noticeable disconnect between him and the QB and that he might do better with a more polished and capable delivery man.  Abd don’t feel that they used XL right, or at least how I expected it to look.  And that could be a function of a reticent WB that shies away from that style of attack. I mean it was either him or Canales that pretty much eliminated downfield from the playbook - even while we see guys running free at times. It Could work if they commit to it.  Whoever isn’t committing.
    • Lot of passion there.  Look, if Bryce plays down to the level that we feel the need to draft a QB high, you don’t think the locker room might be ready for anything that helps them win?   There are s lot of angles to this that could come into play depending on what happens this year.
