More people need to see this. This is exactly what I'm talking about with coaching. Bell has natural athletic ability and he is here in his 3rd season making drive ending mistakes on something that is easily easily correctable with coaches who actually are teachers.

I love Byron Bell as a human being, but I cannot support him starting at RT when I regularly see him getting pushed into Cam or forcing Cam to scramble because he got beat to the edge.

Scouting reports early on had Bell slated as a LT-LG. I would have cut myself if we got rid of Gross and had Bell take over the left side.

Bell was laying carpet for a reason when we picked him up.

Nice kid. Good story. He doesn't have the athletic ability to play T in the NFL. Too easy to beat him on the outside. He would be an okay backup....he isn't a starter. Too easy to pick on his weakness if plays every down

I disagree.  I think he has the athletic ability to play.. It's mental/technique part.  Sometimes you see him and he looks like a wall.  Other times he is like a turn style.

My grandma could blow by Bell with an outside pass rush. Her chair has some get and go.

he can't hang with any decent speed rusher on the outside. So for me, that isn't athletic enough for T.

I think with good coaching he makes a better G even though to date he hasn't been good at G

with proper coaching he may actually be better suited for the left side. i understand 90% of Huddle masses think "oh gee we just stick our guhd tackle on left side and baaahd one on not left side" but truthfully Bell's overall skillset may be better suited for the left side. he has absolutely no future as a guard.

Yeah that one play sure tells me all I need to know. Lets forget the other 25.

 

Networks like ESPN and NFLN perpetuate this kind of poo.  They use one or two play clips all the time to define a player or a team.  Dumbing down of 'Murica I'm telling you.  Everything is Twitter-ized.

Not to mention Bell didn't kick-slide, he back pedaled which is a huge no-no.  Lance would have pointed this out if he knew anything about o-line play.

 

Um, listen to 0:40-0:58. He mentions Bell could have done a kick-slide, but a lot of coaches don't like that because it makes tackles more susceptible to inside moves.

      To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
