Hardy seems to have that ability to get multiple sacks in one game.  Peppers had that ability, but he wasn't consistent.  We always talked concerning Peppers, that if he had Smitty's heart, he would have been the best defensive player perhaps in NFL history.  Hardy might not be as athletic as Pep, but he is a great DE in his own right, and he has that edge that earned him the title of "Kraken".  With the ability to get multiple sacks from the DE position in a game, and with that attitude (along with CJ, Star, Short, and Dwan who's been kind of quite this year), he's going to put up monstrous numbers.  I hope we can sign him long term.

All these stats are for defensive ends. In 2010 Johnson led the league in tackles, 4th in sacks, 3rd in quarterback hits, and 4th in tackle for loss. There was only a minimal difference between himself and the leader in each category.  

 

Again this is only for defensive ends, this year Hardy is 17th in tackles, 6th in sacks, 16th in quarterback hits, and 11th in tackle for loss. It may look like Hardy isn't going to match those numbers but so far after three games in their contract years Hardy is having the better season.

      Me and you clearly have different definitions of production. If you remove the 2023 season where Thielen had just over 1k yards he is 43rd on our all time receivers list just ahead of Jonathan Mingo. And before you ask why would we remove that season? Well a couple reasons. For one thing we won a whopping 2 games. And for the biggest. Thielen was 14th in targets in 2023. We absolutely force fed him the ball all season and finished with the 32nd passing offense. For comparison sake 33 year old Jerricho Cotchery eclipsed over 1k total yards in just 2 more games and with 67 less targets than Thielen did in that 2023 season. He has above average hands. That's it. We overpaid him because we were desperate and overvalued him. That's the reality no matter how many times you or anyone else wants to quote me and get defensive about it.

      He's played great and it was a win-win (rare free agent) for both parties.  One of the points is he hasn't made enough difference to "waste" 35 million on. Another point is by the time Panthers are hitting their prime, he would have taken snaps away from young WRs/TEs/RBs. "Thus" in the long term, hurting the teams new future "window."  But I dare think of the monkey poo of a offense the Panthers had without him the past 2 years. Lack of talent leads to many problems, including paying a 35 year old to be somewhat respectable. Hes one of few that cared enough and made a effort. Plus you know he's done great stuff in many other ways for the team, community juggernaut, leadership, etc.  Judgement is for AT and his 3 year panther career!!

      But it has gotten a little wacky. RBs-https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/_/position/rb     A couple months ago iggles made Bark the highest guaranteed RB, jeanty was until then. That's what matters the guarantee. A rookie never played a down was the leader, until iggles howie made things right.  If a safety gets drafted in the top 8 or so, he would have the highest money too or very close to it.    Add in TEs and C too.    Even with the fixed %, the numbers are getting too much for a player that's not proven themselves.     Plus anytime a QB is drafted it screws up the contracts for players around and if next year a punter gets drafted at the same 90th spot, they want the same contract with the 5.7% increase. Teams would be laughing.    Its just reached this point. Another 10 years and I bet the vets will be crying.
