"Even Palmer admits Hardy hit was legal"

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The NFL thought Greg Hardy's first-quarter hit on then-Oakland Raidersquarterback Carson Palmer was illegal last season, fining the Carolina Panthers defensive end $25,000.

Officials at the game thought it was illegal, penalizing the Panthers 15 yards for roughing the passer.

Both were wrong.

Palmer, who suffered cracked ribs and a bruised lung that sidelined him the rest of that game and the next week's season finale, acknowledged that on Wednesday as he prepared to face Hardy and the Panthers as a member of the Arizona Cardinals

"He hit me good,'' Palmer said. "I gave him an opportunity to get me. I don't think it should have been flagged. Those kind of hits now, just because they look pretty gruesome, get flagged.

"But it was a legal hit and my own fault for not getting rid of the football.''

Another interesting and delicious bit.

Palmer? He has to be a bit nervous considering the Cardinals traded left tackle Levin Brown to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday. Brown is expected to be replaced by Bradley Sowell, making his first career start.

Guess who will line up opposite Sowell? Yep. Hardy.

"Reminds me of Julius Peppers . . . a 260, 270, 280 pound guy, very quick, very powerful,'' Palmer said of Hardy. "I actually saw him running down and almost catching [buffalo running back] C.J. Spiller on a long run.

"With that combination of athleticism, size and speed, it's the way Julius Peppers looked when he played at Carolina.''

I actually have gained respect for palmer after that quote. Its not many times someone gets rocked and injured and says the hit was legal. Its really easy to get mad and whine. However, he does know he has to play Hardy this Sunday. So, maybe he is just smart.....not neccesarily classy. Haha! Either way,........nice.

    • Seems to me that the Bucs have less fight in them now than they had in week 16. The real test is going to be if the Panthers can sustain focus and discipline throughout. With the Bucs being at home, maybe that gives them a little boost of confidence and energy.  Wouldn’t it be something if for ONCE the Panthers came out and dominated from the opening snap and just took this shook Bucs team to task?  If the Panthers see-saw form follows, we are in line for the W. Hard to say we have momentum but we do have a pretty clear pattern of following a loss with a win.  I’m going to say 24-16 Panthers!!
    • When Parcell’s said Bryce better “walk on water”…..the implied concern wasn’t that the tiny QB could survive being hit.  It was acknowledging he would have to be extremely special to overcome the handicaps he would face at this level.  Which he isn’t and can’t.  which isn’t just being hit.  It’s being able to play in an NFL pocket and make NFL throws from it….and that ultimately is Bryce’s problem.  He doesn’t play well from a NFL pocket and can’t make all the throws as needed.  He can’t see as others can.  Which impacts the throws he does and doesn’t take.  It also impacts him bailing and killing plays and turning them into scrambles/dead plays
    • 9:30 kick off here in Scotland, which is better than the 01:20 early hours of Monday that I feared. Will definitely be watching, but probably wouldn't if it had been 0120 as I need to be up for work at 05:45. Falcons Saints is 6pm on the Sunday so will watch that too if it becomes relevant
