Useless notes from the Stadium.

Awesomeness!!

Meh

That stadium in an icebox man. They cranked up the AC like it was the midxle of summer.

We were in the nosebleeds and sat right under the AC. I'm pretty sure I'll be sneezing and coughing for the next few days. We wouldn't have been upset if they opened the roof. Jesus. It wasn't even that hot outside.

Thank you for being a logical fan. Half of the fanbase as we speak is trashing Cam but watching him pick apart The Cardinals' secondary yesterday (you know, prior to Arizona adjusting to Shula's offense) he appeared like ANY of those elite QBs that fans are clamoring for.

Thats pretty much it. Cam was dealing in the first half, and could Lafell and Smitty catch we would have probably won. As usual, the 3rd Q rolls around, the other team adjusts, and we don't. I'm not sure what Cam is supposed to do, other than audible out of every play call,

JR was against the RR hire. Hurney pushed for him. That said, I have no idea why JR kept RR around after last season.

That is correct.  It was disclosed on more than one occasion that JR went with the recommendation of Hurney and his staff.  He was not in favor.

17-3 into half-time changes the feel of the game completely yet we went in 6-3. By the third quarter, I had the sneaking suspicion that Shula had only accounted for a half of football. We did nothing to counter Arizona's blitzes. We didn't try uptempo, we didn't send Cam on rollouts, we didn't employ any designed runs, we didn't take enough advantage of the slants, etc

Pie for 'Let the Lion Out' , she is smoking.  Oh yeah ... and what you said.

Gettleman will be talking to Smitty soon enough, count on it. As far as Cam being a good qb, I agree... but being good isn't good enough in the NFL... especially in the new pass happy state it's in... Cam has got to speed up his reads or the coaches need to change their gameplan.

Is Joe Flacco 'good enough 'or nah?

I had a blast at the game too even though we lost! Was planning on meeting huddlers in the parking lot but got distracted by a really awesome experience.

My buddy and I showed up a bit early to scope out the stadium and were just exploring when we heard someone behind us yell out "Hey, what makes you Panthers Fans?" I turned around expecting flak from some cardinals fan but was surprised that it was a guy in a suit that looked completely serious. The question kind of caught me off guard but I told him this:

1) When I was first getting in to football Carolina was new that year and looked cool, I mean c'mon big black cats are badass. Followed them a bit after that, more than other teams at least.

2) After following the team with some interest I remember them rallying around Sam Mills and really being impressed with the character of the team in how they dealt with that. Got on board all the way was was definitely loyal to the Panthers after that.

3)The front office cares about character, you see it mentioned in plenty of threads with people taking it one way or the other, but it kinda matters to me. I like knowing that the FO cares about the quality of person they bring in to Carolina and it vibes well with me.

I guess that must have been the right answer because he said "Thanks for representing our colors" and gave us FIELD PASSES!!! I was so thrilled, I have been to NFL games before and this is my third Panthers game (no stadiums close to me, closest is Arrowhead) but I had never imagined getting to be on the field.

The experience was great, I got all giddy like a teenage girl at a Beiber concert when I almost got hit by Brandon LaFell as he went after a pass during warmups. I had never seen the players up that close and it really makes them seem more like people and less like personalities if you know what I mean. The game was intense for the first half and a lot of fun, it was kind of rough watching the second half but I was really thankful to walk away from the game still having a terrific experience thanks to Phil Youtsey from the Panthers FO and the organization in general really.

I know it can be tough to be a fan when the wins aren't flowing but thinking back on being asked why I was a Panthers fan really made me realize that winning isn't really why I ever followed Carolina anyway, the loss stings and all but I'm still on board with the Panthers even if we lose all the games.

Keep Pounding!

PS: Someone who can start threads should totally start a thread about what made all of us decide to be Panther's fans. Everyone is getting all emo and sometimes thinking about why puts things in perspective, did for me at least, plus I would like to see what everyone else's answer is too.

    • XL could easily be the last dog at the bowl for WR production next year.  That could leave him around 200-300 yards which would be disastrous.
    • Well sure, that's where the disconnect is then. If Thielen only gets 300-400 yards and T-Mac is healthy for the full season, then I'm with you guys, in that scenario there is absolutely zero excuse for him to not put up over 1,000 yards.   In fact, I'll let you double that, if Thielen has only 600 yards, then again, my expectations are for T-Mac to surpass the 1k mark with ease. But his game has never been about his physical abilities, so even if he loses a half a step, he's still the same player who is a savvy route runner who will get open and Bryce will continue to find him due to their chemistry.  Particularly since Bryce isn't a QB who forces things, he takes what the defense gives him.  So when teams focus on T-Mac and Thielen is more free to find those holes in the defense than he has the last two years, I don't think Bryce is going to ignore him. If someone wants to argue for T-Mac getting to 1,000 yards, personally, I'd say those yards would be far more likelier to come from XL and Coker than Thielen.  And that has nothing to do with XL or Coker, but that I'm still a firm believer in Thielen being able to still get 50-60 yards a game, again, particularly as he'll have less defensive attention on him than in either of his 2 seasons with us so far. Just because T-Mac is our #1 of the future who will have the ball forced to him at times, doesn't mean he needs to be forced into that role from day 1 when we have 3 very legitimate WR options next to him. Let the rookie grow into the role and the NFL game, we have that ability to do so because of Thielen, XL, and Coker.
    • Spot on. He's only 20 and his height 6'2 and weight 230lbs might make him more of an off-ball LB possibility. He's a multi-year project
