If this report is accurate, I'm not sure what to read into it.  Does is mean that Nicks is potentially worth far less on the open market than we think?  Or do teams think he'll be difficult to extend?  Or has Nicks' agent sent out the vibe that Nicks will be testing FA and won't be signing an extension?

Could be any of the above IMO.

It's all speculation really at this point.

What you can count on is that there will be several teams desperate for WR help, and if a bidding war begins, he's getting paid. Big.

We also haven't drafted a WR in the first round fir years. Last I remember it was prob Muhammad.....if he went that early. ....not sure.

When was the last receiver we took round 1?

Moose was a 2cd rounder.  We've only drafted one WR in the 1st round in franchise history.  You ready for this...

We made Rae Carruth the 27th overall pick in the 1997 draft.  We drafted Moose in the 2cd round in '96.

NFL Media's Kimberly Jones learned Monday from a person familiar with the situation that Big Blue has zero plans to part ways with veteran wide receiver Hakeem Nicks: Am told there is no truth to rumors the Giants are shopping Hakeem Nicks or open to trading him.

Giants receive:

» Jonathan Stewart, running back

Panthers receive:

» Hakeem Nicks, receiver

Why it would make sense: Presuming Stewart, who started the season on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing offseason ankle surgery, is fully healthy, this deal would help both teams. The Giants need running back help, and Stewart is still a relatively young guy (26) who did top 1,000 yards from scrimmage (including 1,133 rushing yards in 2009) in two of the past four seasons. ThePanthers, meanwhile, could use a talented receiver like Nicks, who has the potential to give Cam Newton a great boost. While veteran Steve Smith would continue to be the No. 1 receiver in Carolina this season, the Panthers could likely convince Nicks that he would be the man in the future. Stewart, who has conceivably been made expendable by the resurgence of DeAngelo Williams (10th in the NFL with 394 rushing yards), could turn out to be the long-term answer for New York at running back.

Trades are often easier to pull off when both parties have a prior relationship, which is why I could see a deal between the Panthers and the Giants actually happening. Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman came over from the Giants' front office, and I'd imagine that he has a good working rapport with his former colleagues. Gettleman is a straight shooter and the Giants know that; they'd likely feel they could trust him regarding Stewart's health.

Of course, the Giants have shot down rumors that they're interested in moving Nicks. But they're still 0-6, and Nicks is still in the last year of his contract. Anything can happen.

I like Stewart to the Giants for Nicks. Both have injury pronesss. But, not sure it will come about because they are getting Andre Brown back. However, it depends I guess on how Andre looks and if he's at better speed then Stewart. But I like that exchange.

So, I created a thread on Sunday based upon what I was reading and it was moved from this forum and tossed into the NFL Central Forum as not being Panther-related, although this thread remains on the Panther Forum:

http://espn.go.com/n...rd-trade-rumors

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks said he is aware that his name has come up in trade rumors, but so far no one in the organization has said anything to him about it and, as of now, he expects to finish the season with the team.

With the Giants 0-6 and all but out of the playoff hunt well in advance of the Oct. 29 trade deadline, Nicks' name is one of the more prominent to be brought up in speculation about who could be dealt to a receiver-needy contender such as the New England Patriots or San Francisco 49ers.
