Ideal 1st Round Pick for Carolina [UPDATED]

I agree that we need a WR and I think Watkins is a stud--I also like Evans (Tex A&M) a lot--big guy with decent speed if we go with one in the first.  I also think taking a year to develop a WR is common.  I am not certain that we can afford to wait another year.

I think we pretty much have to go LT with such glaring needs at both T spots.

The good news is that WR is deep.  I think Moncrief (Miss), Beckham (LSU), and Matthews (Vandy) would be solid potential #1 WRs in the second.

Will Gettlemen draft a WR and sign a veteran to a 1-year deal?  Prolly.

He will re-sign Ginn and Lafell.

I mean legit NFL player, that is a #1 in the NFL.  Name the last one that took 3 years to turn into a guy ready for the role.

Roleplaying WRs generally are the ones that take time to develop.  Studs tend to studs in today's NFL IMO

I get you.  I think you are right, but I think this draft (especially compared to last year's) is so much better.  Considering that we have glaring needs at both T spots-(Gross could retire and Bell is nothing more that depth), I am hoping we can find that stud in the second round.

I think there are studs in the second round, and I think Gettlemen will draft one then and sign a vet to a 1-year deal.  However, If the top 3 Tackles are gone and Watkins or Evans is sitting there, I jump on the WR.

I think we will be picking in the second half of the round.  I expect 2-3 WRs to be gone, Watkins included.

watkins has some incredibly talent and a ton of upside.

lot's more to like about him, tho.

either WR or OT is the way to go in the first couple rounds, tho. i'm not really sold on any, but watkins just seems like the kind of guy the org likes/prefers.

WR class is going to be very thin this year.

Yeah probably overall, but there are some potential #1's in the first round imo with Evans, Watkins, Lee, and Matthews (especially Evans and Watkins). Really thin after the 2nd round though, so we'll need to scoop one up in the 1st or 2nd.

Great kid. He has gotten into a bit of trouble with weed and adderall (normal college kid stuff) but his dad probably kicked his fuging ass for that. I wouldn't expect anything else.

Mike Evans is also a big time competitor. Reminded me of Cam when he was in his interview after the Alabama loss.

    • Pretty sure Brady left due to the lack of weapons in New England. There were some saying he left because of general disagreements with BB and the way he ran the team. But I think he realized that he couldn't be successful with the team of receivers around him - other than Gronk. BB wanted to give short contracts to everyone not named Edelman.
    • NHL teams that have achieved the feat of scoring three or more goals in the final two minutes of a regulation game to win include the Carolina Hurricanes (Jan 29, 2026 vs. Utah), Dallas Stars (Oct 14, 1995 vs. Bruins), and Montreal Maroons (March 15, 1932 vs. Rangers). More recently, the Vancouver Canucks (April 2025) achieved this feat within the final minute.    Key Historical & Recent Examples Carolina Hurricanes (Jan 29, 2026): Rallied from 2 goals down in the final two minutes to beat the Utah Mammoth 5-4. Vancouver Canucks (April 8, 2025): Scored three times in the final minute of regulation to defeat the Dallas Stars 6-5. Edmonton Oilers (Dec 2025): Forced OT with three goals in the third period (including two late) against the Sabres. Dallas Stars (Oct 14, 1995): Scored three goals in the final two minutes to beat the Bruins. Montreal Maroons (March 15, 1932): Scored three goals in the final two minutes to beat the Rangers.
    • Yeah I'm not sure he'd come back even for HC. Also not sure I want him.
