Run game....

CRA

Recommended Posts

- Don't make this thread into a CRA is Williams bashing thread. That isn't the focus.

Some late game production and QB runs made their stat line look okay.....but we ran very poorly overall against a weak run D. Shula IMO is getting too predicable with it. Tolbert is getting very predictable as is Williams within the offense. Plays with Cam under C were almost a joke today. That needs to change. Granted our RBs are playing with a stacked deck bc the only little holes they get are off the left side and opponents know it.

I do feel we missed an opportunity late in that game to get Barner some reps. I would like to see if he can bring an element to our attack, especially in regards to taking it outside.

So my thoughts are....we need more read option looks. No, not full retard early 2012 Chud read option....but we need to kick it up a notch. Not just after we fail over and over and over running traditionally. The read option everyone moans about I think needs to be brought out early in games from now on. Tolbert and Williams both had some nice runs out of it....only one bad one that I can recall.

More read? Or keep on keepin on?

CRA, I know it's been a few hours since we won, but c'mon. Can we just enjoy our first back-to-back W's this season for a while before we get all anal about what's not working quite right? It wasn't pretty but it worked. I love ya man but let's have a coke and a smile right now.

I was just thinking about this right now. The way the run game went today should be the way we should view it against stout defenses. Time to start scheming alternatives. This is arguably the best front seven we have faced this season so it may get easier from here but who knows.

Keep doing what is working. D-Will can't run for 100 yards every Sunday and clearly the Rams spent all week shoring up their run responsibilities. The three games I watched they did not have that type of penetration.

2 of the last 3 games....it hasn't been working at all. That was my concern.

First couple games, under a new OC always have a little different feel as opponents don't really have any true film on you. We are getting worse overall.

    • It's definitely a historical issue at QB but to be perfectly blunt, we also don't do a good job of really developing almost any position if you look at the last decade or so. I tend to be on the side of that being far less a development issue than an evaluation deficiency.  I think we are in the situation at QB2/3 recently due to the overall roster being absolutely abhorrent and the QB classes being quite thin. It is harder to justify another Matt Corral(or several) when you can potentially get a real two deep contributor at other positions.  But, it was a lot of hard work to get to the point where are roster is so incredibly bad that luxury picks literally are not in our vocabulary.  This is the reaping what you sow portion of our history.
    • That is what I meant about our front office. They are like someone filling out a March Madness bracket based on preference of uniform colors and mascots. There's no rhyme of reason to some of these fugg'n mind numbing decisions they make.  They go all in on these flimsy-@ss prospects and are gun shy when it comes to more solid prospects.  It's literally maddening and the reason I stopped being so emotionally involved in this team. Heck the only reason I'm active on the board today is one, it's my day off and two, it's cut down time.
