I'm betting Stewart gets injured more easily as time passes...this is the first time he's missed significant time, and with feet/ankle/leg injuries, at a position like running back, that's where they make their money.  It'd be almost impossible for Stewart to be consistently what he was, and as soon as we can figure out a means of jettisoning his contract, the better.  This will hopefully mean the end of drafting running backs early unless they're truly a once-in-a-generation player, but hopefully where this franchise begins picking means that sort of talent more than likely won't be available.  Fortify the oline and it becomes nearly irrelevant who we have at rb, for if we can get enough of a black-and-blue-truckin' crew going, any rb could have success.

You're right ankle injuries can be nagging for a RB. But he had surgery on both ankles and from everything I've seen they were very effective. In some cases he possibly could come back stronger than before.

I hope he can get back out there and finish out the season.

DWILL is not gonna get the job done. He was absolutely horrible on first downs against STL and in the 1st Q of every game. I know that the o-line plays a part in this as well, but sometimes your RB has to make a guy or two miss.

He has had a resurgent year though, he's been very effective .

Very effective?

He has been decent. OL isn't doing him any favors but he can't break tackles and lacks the burst to really take it outside....

we need another element to the run game...someone who can create more on their own bc this line isn't going to set anyone up

I don't think he can stay away from injury long enough to prove he's a #1 back for us

Williams is a roleplayer getting extra carries. We aren't looking for a #1 RB....we are looking for improved running overall. Stewart doesn't need to be a #1

And thats Stewart?

Pretty sure Stewart has a long history of being able to create.....it is why PFF has him as the most elusive RBs most years.

Elusive in terms of.... He can get by the first defender and find positive yards. The negative runs in traffic with Williams hurt.

    • Nfl leaders don't look at the population of just the city itself.  Charlotte has three of the top fifty combined statistical areas within a 1 to 1.5 hour drive.  Charlotte, Greensboro/WS/High Point, and Greenville Spartanburg.  Those three statistical areas include nearly 7 million people.  Other than Raleigh, the only one in the top fifty within an hour and half of raleigh is Greensboro.  So only about 4-5 million people.  Charlotte has many more people to draw from.   Also, many of the surrounding communities for Raleigh are not native born.  If memory serves, many still refer to Cary as Containment area for relocated Yankees.  One of the reasons the Canes do so well is a significant portion of the population are people who moved from Northern Areas.  Would that population translate into support for a NFL team?  Hard to say, but I see a tremendous amount of Giants/Jets jerseys in the triangle when I forced to endure the crazy traffic on 40/85.
    • This will also be prime Training Camp meltdown time on here lol. Preseason game 1 August 8th, i'm guessing camp starts around July 25-27th
