So WFNZ brings on Mike Belloti to talk about how Mariota is better than Cam?

"I think he'll be a fine quarterback at the (NFL) level, much like a (Colin) Kaepernick-type guy ... better than Carolina's quarterback right now," Belotti told WFNZ-FM's "The Drive" on Tuesday.

Bellotti said Mariota is a "better student of the game" than Newton, and that Newton -- a 6-foot-5 and 245-pound physical marvel who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds at the combine -- has been able to rely on his natural gifts to get by.

"Cam has never had to work as hard, and I think he is finally now starting to get it and spend time in the classroom with the coaches," Bellotti said. "A lot of things come really easy to Cam. I think he still thinks he can just go out there and do it. I think Marcus is a combination of the athlete and the student."

Bellotti said he believes Mariota (6-4, 211) is faster than Newton and also "a more natural runner" thanRobert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins.

"I don't know if he is quite as good a pure passer (as Griffin), but he is a better combination becauseRGIII is more of a sprinter as opposed to a football runner, and so he puts himself in situations where he can't protect himself," Bellotti said.

I have no problem with the opinion that he thinks Mariota is better than Cam.  I disagree with him, but an opinion is an opinion.

I have a serious problem with this jack wagon YET AGAIN pulling out the bull poo Nolan Nawrocki level character assassinations about his work ethic and his intelligence.  Especially since his teammates and coaches at every level since Blinn Junior College in Texas say differently about him.

WFNZ and Marc James actively try to get Cam negativity out of their guests because it instantly lights up the phone lines with pro and con callers. Marc in particular will always ask a leading question to try and draw a negative opinion out about Cam.

Lol Griffen a pure Passer. OK. If by pure passer you mean "one read if it's covered run for my life" product of a system passer then sure.

Like Marcus... But to ever say someone is going to be better than one if not the top young QB in the game before they take a snap in the league is laughable.

Yeah, I found it amusing that he compared his "better than Cam" QB favorably to two QBs that Cam is already better than.

When I read this all I could think is he's giving an opinion on someone he doesn't know personally. He's on the other side of the country, there is no way he could be an authority on this topic. He made a few good points but going after Cam as a student of the game came off as blowing hot air.

Cam would be the first to tell you he sometimes overestimates himself. He will try to make a play when it's not there because he got away with it in college. But some of his other comments were a little too far.

I was listening yesterday when this was brought up. What they fail to mention in the article is Belotti is a former Oregon head coach and athletic director.

They had Steve Smith on and replayed the interview. Steve was basically saying how dumb it is for a college guy to say this when Steve has been with Cam all through training camp, through practice etc.

In regards to the Oregon QB being better than Cam, Steve said "Boys play on Friday, young men play on Saturday, and men play in Sundays." Meaning you can't compare a college player to NFL players.

i guarantee you that most people are going to have two reactions after reading that...

1) who?

and then...

2) who cares?

seriously...who cares what that clown thinks? he is a nobody (as in nobody cares what he thinks) who is in a rapidly dwindling group of morons who still feel that cam is that guy nawrocki painted cam to be. more than that, that opinion has been shown to be not only irrelevant, but completely inaccurate by ANYONE paying attention.

if some narrow-minded media hacks still believes in that myth about cam, let them be ignorant and take joy in knowing that more and more people are seeing cam as more than just a great athelete. you look at his numbers and the way he's been not just taking care of the ball, but spreading it around and you can tell he's great.

Bellotti is just still pissed they lost to Auburn in the BCS Championship to Cammy Cam.

And if there was ever a QB prospect that comes with a massive asterix next to their stats its the QB's from Oregon.

Kellen Clemens was a second rounder coming out of that system. I think we all know how that worked out after last night.
