Panthers WR Marvin McNutt

Does anyone know how Panthers new WR obtained from Miami's Practice squad is doing? With the right amount of coaching, I am wondering if he couldn't be a replacement for  Lafell,if the need occurred.

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS McNutt is reliable to get his hands on the ball and make a tough catch when it’s thrown anywhere near him. He has good awareness to get open on broken plays and drag his feet along the sidelines. He is a viable possession-type option for quarterbacks looking to pick up a quick first down.
WEAKNESSES McNutt can struggle when running routes across the middle. There are consistency and effort issues when blocking and running decoy routes that aren’t intended to him, and he can struggle off the line if he isn’t decisive and powerful with his first step.

Here are some pro's and con's about Marvin McNutt. With Ricky Proehl showing McNutt some tricks of the trade and enhancing his skills, he could turn out to be a pleasant surprise.

* A converted quarterback with sure hands, McNutt steadily improved and produced in a pro-style offense and has the skill set to excel in a West Coast system. Frame, ball skills and body control enable him to be effective running slants or leaping outside the numbers.
 * Long, big-framed
* Rare leaping ability
* Boxes out CBs
* Concentrates, tracks and adjusts
* Able to control and contort his body
* Makes the difficult and clutch catches

Downside
* High-cut
* Builds to speed
* Could stand to polish route running
* Inconsistent blocker
* Average strength, elusiveness after catch
* Will not factor on special teams

I agree about King having more potential.  I think it's a Brandon Gibson like ceiling for him so my expectations aren't huge or anything but it'd be cool if he became a contributor.  But the bottom line is the current distribution and personel is working great.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
