Is it time for us to admit that Smitty is done?

Is he done in the nfl? No. Is he done as a premier #1 WR? Yes.

Cam's bad games come when he's focused too much on trying to get Steve Smith the ball. We've seen him give up on two deep balls this year that got picked off. Part of your job as a WR is to make sure the defender doesn't catch those balls.

Cam missed Greg Olsen for a TD possibly two while locking in on Steve Smith. I'm not sure but I'm willing to bet 90% of Cams incompletions on Sunday were intended for 89. Not sure what was going on there, if it was Cam being just off or them not being on the same page.

One thing I've never seen from Steve is that it appeared on one play Cam had to call a timeout because Steve wasn't where he was supposed to be

Truth is Cam missed Smitty 2 or 3 times when he was wide open. He hits those passes, Smitty would have close to 100 yards and everyone would be discussing how great he still is.

He missed smitty more than that. If I remember correctly the majority of his incompletions were targeting Steve smith. Cam was having a bad day for sure, but he wasn't missing anyone else that badly that often.

Yes, Smitty has lost a step both mentally and physically.  It's inevitable for every football player.  To have kept it up as long as he has it what is surprising to me.  That said, he can still be an asset to this team, and still is an asset.  He's not been the #1 target for Cam in any case I don't believe...Olsen is and should be.  Smitty's game has always been predicated on his quickness, not his speed.  His quickness was what would turn those quick outlet passes to him into big gains.  His quickness was what would get him separation from defenders.  To steal a line from Toby Keith...he's not as quick as he once was, but he's as quick once as he ever was (as evidenced in the game against the Rams)...that one play in particular and you know what play I'm talking about.

We haven't been in the right situation to draft a Green or Blackmon. I wouldn't change the direction we've drafted the past two years in the first round so where would we have drafted a first round talent?

I keep hearing Blackmon's name mentioned. How much use are the Jags getting out of him? Is he practicing his routes in rehab?

I don't know that Ginn can become the ideal deep threat, as far as replacing Smith, but he's what we've got this season, and I'll still take Smith for his moves and toughness over a lot of younger receivers.

PFFFFFF, have you taken into account that he isnt exactly one on one every game. Teams still game plan around him....thats how much of a threat he is, without him Olsen, Ginn and Bfel wouldnt be so wide open. with that being said ....how many times has he saved us with that 10 yard quick slant on 3rd down? Dude is not old, he will not decline until/if he hits 37 or 38. Everybody is different and he has alot of miles on those legs but he has some good years left in him. I agree about putting him in the slot. Get another really good WR and smith will be producing like Welker did in NE

no.

but it is time to get another top WR in here...after this season.

we have to draft one in the first couple rounds this coming year.

we do that and we can keep smitty for the next couple years.

smitty has had issues this year, but it's nothing new. his role is changing in the offense, tho, and that has to play a part in what is going on.

yesterday's misses were mostly on cam who rivera said was pretty anxious and excited coming into the game yesterday. i wouldn't read too much into what happened yesterday, tho. it was an anomaly.

and we won against a division rival at home and are 2 games over .500 and only one game back from the division leader. what we did might have been ugly, but it worked.

Everyone, including Smitty, knows he's not in his prime anymore but to say he's done is a little ridiculous.

The big reason for his drop in production is we don't run the offense through him anymore.  Our offense has become a power run, moving formations to find mismatches, and Cam finding the open man.  We grind teams out now on defense and offense.  Look how long some of our drives are taking.  Teams ha shifted to not allow Cam to throw deep and Cam has finally started to take advantage by taking when the defense is giving him which is medium passes and underneath stuff.

We're also giving most of our deep play action passes to Ginn because of his extreme speed.  Cam had an off day overthrowing his receivers.  We no longer need to live and die by our ability to get the ball to Smith.  Smith still has the ability to be our #1 receiver.  If we can get another guy with #1 ability and allow Smith to truely move to the slot, he's got another 3 years or quality football in him.

We need a new premiere receiver and put Smitty where he fits best.  In the slot.  If he alligator arms many passes across the middle when that transition is made, then yes...he needs to retire or Gettleman will trade.  At his age, you're not getting a lot so at this point you keep him and draft/acquire a top WR prospect.  A sure fire thing....not a QB convert or a speed demon with hands issues or a slow big dude with questionable work ethic.  If we keep winning though, I don't know how this is going to pan out.  We just need to stay healthy at this point so we can hope to make the playoffs.

One game back from the Saints!!!
