Posted originally in the wrong topic....just my thoughts...We should gash San Fran between the tackles....they give up just over 4 yds per rush....keep our nice stable of backs rotating with fresh legs and keep kappernickel the elf off the field and we will be fine....keep controlling the clock...long 10-11 play drives that end in points, wear down their front seven and when that safety creeps up into the box let ginn take out his frustrations .....on d we should take a page out of the ravens playbook and have hardy, Johnson and Davis hit kap EVERY time he even hints at a read option put him on his ass...star and dwan need to have a good game to keep from getting shuffled down on those zone reads and let keek roam free.....we can't let Vernon Davis do what tony g did to us in the first half last week....there will be big plays both ways...the team that keeps an even head and responds will win....let's hope San Fran takes us lightly and we come out and smack them in the mouth....I'm going with 21-17 panthers

I hope we see 28 early and often between the tackles....

I think 34 could do better late than early

Actually I think that our secondary will have to come up big for us to win. If Melvin and Drayton can cover the receivers and our Davis or Kuechly can handle their Davis, it allows our SS to drop in the box as a spy or double Davis on a passing throw. Roles could be reversed with Davis as the spy but the point is that Seattle crunched them do by shutting down the run and denying the big pass play, not doing one or the other.  We can shut down the run.  It is just how many men will that take and what will be left to comprise the pass defense.  If we can stop the run by dropping 7 that would be fantastic.  It would mean that our safeties and linebackers still have to play run first. So the corners and free safety are going to have to be solid in man coverage 1 on 1.  If they play lose zone and we don't get pressure, even Kaepernick will be able to pick us apart.  I wonder if we might run blitz on early downs to try and get stuffs.  I hope we do it some because on a passing play it serves to create a potential sack as well as help you shut down the run.

Of course the best scenario is that we stop it with 4 linemen.  Which could happen if we don't try and get sacks as we maintain our gap integrity and push towards the quarterback but be ready to spring if he rolls out, hands off  or takes off running.  Make him pay every down with hits and pressure until we get in his head.  He might toss us a few.  I agree the run game is critical and how many men we have to consign to that will impact our passing game as well.  But I think we have to shut down the run game especially on third down.  Which means not giving them 3rd and 1 to begin with.

Well said....mikell and Mitchell are going to have to play extremely discipline and not get sucked up or allow Davis to get up the seams....Starr and dwan need to establish a new line of scrimmage on each snap and clutter up their back field, play gap sound football and pray our oline creates some holes

stop their run on the way to collapsing the pocket you stop their offense.

actually, stopping their running game period stops their offense.

can't do that against the panthers offense. sell out to stop the run and we kill you through the air.

that said, stopping the run won't be easy.

Kaep has been much better at long passes than short ones this season. Need to get pressure on him to avoid him having time to go deep. Also need to slow down Davis.

Keys to game

Stop the run from big plays

Keep Davis in check

Make Kaep convert on short passes and keep him from scrambling
