Brandon LaFell a #2 WR? (LaFell vs Moose)

next year we will draft a number one receiver or we will grab a top-tier guy in free agency. we will keep steve smith and we will keep ted ginn to return kicks and punts and remain a deep threat.

lafell will not be content to play WR4, and chances are he'll demand a salary much higher than what we'd pay a WR4.

brandon lafell is gone

He has been no better than he has always been. Unfortunately, we need a lot more if he is worth resigning. He has had 3 years in the current system and there hasnt been a significant jump. Just not worth the money he is gonna want. Plus this draft is loaded with receiver talent.

Here's a list of free agent WR's for next year. There isn't much to choose from. I'm not on the Hakeem Nicks boat, so to me no one really sticks out.

Watkins, Evans, Ebron will all be gone IMO when we are picking. Assuming we do draft a WR and/or TE who knows if they'll be ready to come in contribute right away.

Heres my thoughts on 11  vs 87      11 plays in a spread it around offense where the open man should get the ball.    87 played in a target Smitty 15 times a game(if not more) offense.     87>11   even  if  their #'s as second fiddle to 89 are the same its not the same passing attack.  #11 has many more opportunities than 87 when ole #17 was zero'd in on 89.      That is just my take pluse as mentioned before   87 carried the passing attack in 04' when 89 was hurt.    How do you feel in this scenario.     17 is your QB and 89 is out the whole year.   11 is your number 1 option and  Ricky.P  and Magnum are your other options......yikes

A number 2 for a non superbowl team.

I think he's an alright WR. He is great when he is standing still and catching the ball on curls ect. I do not understand why you guys do not want to go out and look for another WR to add on.

Just think if Smitty is hurt... WHO is our number one? No waaaaay Lafell is any of that.. I say we keep on adding to our talent. Not saying drop him as he has improved.. but always be looking for that other guy for the future... if we had ONE big athletic elite WR plus lafell smitty taveres king teddy G.. we have a hella CORE to not be messed with..

Thats the thing, they spread the ball around so it obviously affects his numbers. Greg Olsen has been targeted 67 times this year. Ted Ginn 49 times. Only so many balls to go around a game.

Where as Alshon Jeffrey has 58 catches for 860 yards. You assume Alshon is having a much better year at first glance. However Alshon has been targeted 103 times (56% completion rate)

TG has been targeted 49 times...........no way!

I would have never thought that.......how many catches ??

Heres my thoughts on 11 vs 87 11 plays in a spread it around offense where the open man should get the ball. 87 played in a target Smitty 15 times a game(if not more) offense. 87>11 even if their #'s as second fiddle to 89 are the same its not the same passing attack. #11 has many more opportunities than 87 when ole #17 was zero'd in on 89.

I'm going to use 2008 as my example since we went 12-4 and we can probably agree we all saw Moose as a solid number 2 that year.

Delhomme had 414 pass attempts and targeted Moose 108 times. 26% of the pass attempts went to Moose. Smitty had 129 targets for 31% of all pass attempts.

Cam currently has 337 pass attempts and has targeted LaFell 66 times for 20% of Cam's pass attempts. Smith has been targeted 90 times for 27% of pass attempts.

I do understand your point about the different offenses though. However, Shula's plays have Cam making alot of shorter throws. I don't have NFL all 22 so I don't know forsure but it seems LaFell is usually running a deeper route. With the OL not being able to provide Cam with alot of time I think it's affecting LaFell's opportunities.

When LaFell runs shorter routes and crossing routes, I think he typically gets a chance to make a play. Maybe someone can confirm this for me.

    • I enjoy being truthful. Although that means being unbiased. Which most on here are incapable of being unbiased.
    • It looks like the Bucks and Giannis are headed for a divorce. He says he's ready to play and the Bucks say that he has told them he isn't. It really doesn't matter except that it likely means the end for Giannis in Milwaukee. He's 31 years old, but still an elite producer.  So, as GM, would you go after him this offseason? Remember, the Hornets have two 1st round picks this year and potentially THREE first round picks next year. What would a trade look like?
    • I agree with you, if all things are equal--assuming we are on the same page as to what that means.  If a DT and OT are there at 19 and you have them equal, which do you take? The DT would be rotational and get 25 snaps a game or so, and the OT is probably a reserve for most of the season.  What if Walker plays out of his mind and Ickey comes back strong? To me, there are just too many variables at T and Morgan met the needs for 2 starters.  Nothing about that screams lets "go OT in round 1" to me. I could see an Edge or a DT at 19 before I see OT.  I could see a TE or S before an OT--and I (personally) would rather have an OT over DT, Edge, TE, or S--but I do not see the logic.  In fact, CB is a position that resembles OT--who do we have behind our starters and are we happy with Smith-Wade?  A CB would be on the field more than a reserve OT.  How is the Walker at LT situation different than the the Bryce situation? He is basically on a 1-year deal and if he is injured, Forsythe becomes Pickett.  Would you take Simpson in the draft?  Dont get me wrong--I usually agree with you  and I get your point.  I am an OL guru--but I just do not see this particular group of Tackles making us better than Walker.  In addition, I think we can address OT once the Ickey situation clears up.  Short arms, poor run blocking, issues with strength--I am simply not impressed with the OTs.  For clarity, "developmental" refers to players who are still a year or two away from starting.  We are all developmental, but there are prospects who need a season to transition to the pro game. I see 1--maybe 2 OTs who could step into a starting role right now. In college, for example, taking snaps under center requires a different approach than blocking for the shotgun.  There is less to learn if you play a position that does not require much adjustment to transition to the NFL.
