Bright Spots

If you didn't look at the score you might think we had a decent game

1) Running game looked good. Everyone averages over 4 ypc. Look for Williams to shine getting 20 carries an 100 yards against the jets in the lone back role.

2) No turnovers.

3) Cam was efficient. 65% completion rate and looked great running the ball.

4) Ginn got us 100+ yards on returns and looked like he could take one back.

5) Nortman had one bad kick I think but still managed to flip the field most times.

Honestly Cam looked pretty damned good most of the time.  He is progressing thru his reads and hitting the receivers... he could improve his movement in the pocket some, but otherwise he's playing well.  His O line didn't help much, Bell got just flat beat 90% of the time.

There were a couple of times where his timing looked a bit off, that play to Ginn on the right sideline is a good example...  he was about 1 second late getting the ball out... he's got to trust his receivers are going to run the route and get the ball out before they cut.  That's what Brees did so well last night.

That was clearly the gameplan - efficient ball control football.  It might have worked, on another day.

not getting 14 points early really hurt us, Gano's missed field goal

I don't think we were winning that game, no matter though. Brees played great and we had zero pass rush

another bright spot was Smitty's TD, another one for his HOF case.

Yeah it was a rough game but I loved that TD last night for some reason and to watch Smith give it to a young fan was pretty cool to view.

You did a much better job of finding bright spots than I did. I honestly couldn't think of a single one. This partially confirms what I suspected: the gap between us and the Saints is not as big as what last night seemed to show.

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
    • I don't really like the idea of adding Marner to a team that's only had issues in the playoffs.  But no issues with the general idea.
