they might.  but the recent performance vs the Colts has me worried.

playoff time is different story. that front seven and alex smith is a very good qb regardless of the hate around here. oh yea and that guy jamaal charles.

we have no idea how cam is going to be in the playoffs. i suspect great things just based on college and this years amazing 4th quarter comebacks.

KC is a very, very dangerous team.

I can't get on board with 1, sorry. I think we're top 5 for sure, but our O is too inconsistent right now for the top spot.

Name 1 team that doesn't have questions. Don't let your fear ruin your giddy. Either that, or go open a present early and get some happiness.

yeah I can't get down with #1. have they seen our offense over the past month? We had an amazing 1  minute drive on sunday, but besides that... NOTHING. besides a lucky screen pass to DWill against the jets.... NOTHING. a garbage time TD against the Saints 3 weeks ago, besides that..... NOTHING. Now Smitty being out, does nothing but hurt us as well. This offense is mediocre to poor at best (as of this moment). Lets hope we can change that over the next 3 weeks

Well, aren't you just a ray of sunshine. NOTHING you said makes any difference in what we have, and are going to, accomplish. Fear is a dangerous thing. Let it go.

So do you think 24 tackles, an interception and a pass defensed earned Luke Kuechly Defensive Player of the Year honors? What a long way he's come since incurring the pass-interference penalty that led to the Bills' game-winning score in Week 2. The fun part of Kuechly's game is the passion that he plays with -- something that can't be evaluated at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Let's think about this.........

Power Rankings going into week 17.....................who is playing the best consistent ball right now and winning?

I believe the Panthers are a top 5 but every one in the top five has dropped a bomb.............and looked horrible in the last 4 games. A healthy Panthers team can win against anyone but two teams need attention here......

Arizona..............right now they are playing consistent defense and offense.........amazing to think they will probably not make the playoffs.......if there is a dark horse to go all the way they are primed right now and yet may sit on the sidelines.

Phila..............I don't know what to think of this team week to week but when they are clicking....... look out.

In the playoffs you must have consistent defense and offense to win it all.

The closest team to that right now are Patriots, Broncos and Arizona.

If we beat Atlanta for the bye I think we can be prepared to make a run and wouldn't be surprised if we see the Pats in the SB rematch.........

I agree with you about Arizona, they are playing the best football in the league right now.  Their only crime is playing in the wrong division.

Another team that I would add to your list is Cincinnati, especially if they manage to get a first round bye.  They do struggle on the road at times but that have defeated both New England and Indianapolis this season so they have proven that they can compete.  Also, in the last eleven games they have only lost once in regulation so it is not as if they get blown out every time they go on the road.

I disagree that Denver has a consistent defense at this point though.  The are twenty-second in points allowed.  The only other playoffs teams that will be outside the top twelve in that regard are the winners of the NFC East and North, and they are only making the playoffs by default anyway.

Well stated...............I can't disagree with any of that.............I don't follow Denver close enough to know about their defense.

Its that Manning factor that clouds my judgment.

What he is doing this year is amazing, and with a weakened AFC he certainly had the ability to overcome the defense and at least get to the SB.  With Von Miller out though I am not sure I see that happening now.  I think his loss is bigger for them than Gronk's was to NE.

The debate throughout this thread is another reason why Power Rankings are completely irrelevant.  Amongst the Top 3, and maybe even the Top 5, there really is no difference; the order is essentially decided only by a head-to-head matchup.  And as the Wildcard spot has proved over and over, the most likely Super Bowl contender are those who get hot at the right time.  So, while it's good for the fan's ego and trash talking, it doesn't really gauge who will have more success in the playoffs.  Therefore, I don't care if we are ranked 15th or 1st as long as we get hot at the right time.

10-1 over the past 11 weeks sounds like a number 1 ranking to me.  On top of that we just avenged our only loss over that span.  It's not too much respect, but we don't want to drink the cool aid either.
