Officially Concerned about the Offense

Shula isn't really doing much to open things up for us with his playcalling, but Cam hasn't been very accurate either.  And in the second half of the season we played some pretty good defenses.

I'm not terribly worried about how we looked against Atlanta and Tampa Bay either--division games are always a little different.

But Cam needs to be more accurate on his mid-range passes, or we're going to end up with way too much on the defense to feel comfortable.

If Cam is more consistent  I see the play calling changing. I think they are worried about interceptions therefore more conservative play calling. Once Cam fixes his mechanics our offense is going to be dangerous.(disclaimer) I like Cam Newton and feel he has as much upside if not more as any QB playing. We would not be where we are without him but he has consistency issues with his passing . He can be very accurate at times but it is just not consistent.

First off, mechanics are Cams problems.  When you have one issue and it is consistent, it is much easier to correct than others.  Either he is not putting ample weight on his front foot or something, but it seems like he should be able to correct the overthrows in the offseason.

Secondly, the huggers need to go away.

If I want to crack on Dwill for lack of ball security, it is not because I hate his hair.

If McD is calling too much zone, it is not because I despise the Irish.

If Luke gets a bit too touchy feely while covering TE's, it's not because he has a funny name.

If Smith gets a bit too involved in the trash talk, it is not because I think him a gangster.

And if Cam is overthrowing the ball, it is not because he is black.

If you cannot discuss your teams pros and cons without pulling the race card, then you have little football knowledge.  Just look at how Delhomme was admired and how he disappointed.  He fumbled when someone just touched him.  He fell like someone had shot his legs off.  And he drove me crazy when he was in a "bad zone" which meant he could just as easily throw 5 pics or 5 TD's.  We railed on him to no end, but he is still an admired QB for our organization.

When you run out of arguments or your football knowledge just doesn't extend as far as others, then just be quiet, you don't have to pull the race card, it does not trump anything.

Rivera called the overthrows "unforced errors."  Cam said he needs to get better and get back to his mechanics.  Smith went to Cam on the sideline to get his head right.  Who else should share the blame?

Questions: Do you think Cam can overthrow WRs all the way to the Super Bowl?  Do you want him to continue overthrowing WRs and TEs and RBs?  If you answered "no" to these questions, then we are in agreement and doing so without "zeroing in" on the QB--simply suggesting that he corrects this problem.

Yes we can.  Flacco and Eli miss receivers on the regular and neither can do what Cam does with his legs.  They have 3 rings in last few seasons.

Telling the truth is not criticism, it is reality.  Cam was 1 for 8 with a ZERO QB rating in the second quarter.  How many playoff games does that win in your world?

Russell Wilson started 1-9 in a game earlier this season.

He's still pretty good

LOL you are funny.

Question: In your opinion, what is the biggest position of need for the Panthers on Offense? And as a Team?

If you were the GM and BPA was not an option, what position would you fill first?

I know that you are not a Shula fan, but am interested in your perspective....

Do you think the bigger issue is playcalling or execution?

Execution from lack of playmakers....

Need a play making receiver that gets separation and another solid offensive lineman.

I know that Cam doesn't always make perfect throws but if we had a game changing receiver the throws would not have to be perfect all the time.

Smitty has made a career of catching high or low throws. He is just getting old for NFL standards. Alshon would have covered some of Cams flaws.

We need playmakers. Tom Brady throws inaccurate balls a ton too.

I love Cameron but it's obvious we have holes to fill. I never thought we would actually win the sb this year so I am not expecting to. I am super excited what we have coming in the years to come though. We are what we are. Just that simple.

Honestly, probably the best post I've ever seen on the huddle. Couldn't have said it better myself, thank you sir.

but here is the thing, every single QB misses passes at times in the game. including Peyton, Brees, Brady etc..... they ALL miss passes. some of those passes are missed horribly, high, low, wide, short it doesnt matter. but do you think there fans sit  on a message and board and critique every single missed throw as much as this  one does with Cam?

does Cam miss high at times, yes. but every QB misses. the WR depth on this team does its QB no favors as far as catching the ball at times. WRs are slipping in and out of breaks, not running to the correct spot on timing routes, not high pointing the ball at the correct time, not coming back to the ball etc. the one pass to Olsen was high, and the INT off Hixon hands was a tad high. but that ball was catchable because it hit off his hands.

finally Lafell. the comeback route on the sideline was just horrible. he literally stopped running back to the football on that route and Trufant broke and under cutted him. then the slant route, every QB will throw to a certain spot on that route because if its late, its picked. Lafell again ran a piss poor route, that allowed Trufant to meet him at the catch point and break the pass up.

another thing, if you know your QB is excited and you need to calm him down, why wait until 3rd and 8 before he attempts a pass? calm him down by starting the game off with a easy timing route, instead of a power or counter that gets 0 yards.

You just criticized 2 WR's and a TE.  I doubt you have a whole busload of Olsen huggers come in here and tell you that you are racist.  That is the difference.

We can say Olsen should not dance a jig every time he catches the ball, but should turn and get a few yds before being tackled.  It does not mean anything beyond this.

It is our team, we can say what we want about any player, pro or con.  I would say message boards all over whine about their QB's and other players all the time.  The Saints board was just saying after our game that Brees was washed up.  Does not make them racists, just stupid

Didn't really see this until I re watched the game. LaFell's effort on this play to atleast try and break up an interception was pathetic.

Like i said the offense will receive a big boost if lafell gets limited snaps, dude is not running routes like a nfl caliber wr and he's not putting in the type of effort were going to need in the play-offs.

Cam has to settle down quicker, whether shula calls more screens or something to get him off his toes

Other then that everything else is fine

yes we can, but to literally dissect every throw this guy makes is just dumb. some people would rather talk about his misses then his great passes or pass he makes, so why is that? again every QB misses, but when Cam does, the same people come on here and harp about him missing throws.

watching Olsen attempt to get any type of YAC is eye gauge worthy.
