Graham - Saints updated...a grievance may be filed

Captain Morgan

Though few believe the Saints will let Jimmy Graham hit free agency, it doesn't mean things aren't getting complicated. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that no meaningful progress has been made, according to a source briefed on the talks. The sides are still millions apart annually. If no deal is struck, look for Graham to be tagged as a tight end -- projected for 2014 at $6.8 million -- despite his high percentage of snaps in the slot and out wide as a receiver. If that happens, expect Graham to file a grievance in an effort to get wideout money, projected at $11.6 million. FoxSports.com's Mike Garafolo noted Tuesday that New Orleans is willing to pay Graham more than Rob Gronkowski's $9 million per year.

One of the biggest offseason priorities for the New Orleans Saints will be locking up star tight end Jimmy Graham to a long-term deal. However, for salary cap purposes, the Saints may be forced to place the franchise tag on the NFL’s top tight end, and that’s where things get thorny.

“I’m not keen on the franchise tag,” Graham said Friday after a Pro Bowl practice, according to NFL.com. “That would be really unfortunate, but that’s really all I have to say about that. That’s real unfortunate. If that happens, it doesn’t really matter what I prefer.”

I know they are in cap Hades, but there's no way they let him go....

There is absolutely no way you let that man walk if you are the Saints.

If somehow he did walk from that team, I would be ecstatic that we would not have to see him and Brees together again twice a year.

I would also really dread seeing who he goes to, because it would definitely be a contender and he would put them over the top. For example, a super hellish nightmare for me is him winding up on the Colts.

The fact that they would underpay him the TE tag knowing the majority of his snaps are at WR, is disgusting. The nature of the beast

exactly. if im Brees, im in Loomis office everyday asking him to make sure we pay my young, stud TE.and pay him good. i know it is a business, but this guy deserves every amount of money he gets. he has bailed out that offense on numerous occasions and is a match up nightmare.

Tagging Graham as a TE and getting him at around 2.5 a year with 8ish guaranteed .... sheesh. Sucks for him. If labeled WR he would get 3 times that at least.

    • I could be waaaaaaay off about Kon. I do fault myself into, to borrow a NFL phrase heavily "RAS" nerd on players, too much. There are PLENTY of athletic freak shows that are playing overseas(or Amazon delivery) cause they never figured out NBA ball. I can easily miss seeing the talent. Plus did he only have 2 dunks on the season??(is that for real??) I didn't watch over a few hours of duke, but not one point did I think "That Kon guy is a top 4 pick in the upcoming draft". IMO I still foresee Ball bringing the ball up, doing his weak isolation game and never even looking for Kon. That's his best trait according to everyone, shooting right? I do not see ball, bridges, miller or even williams making the extra pass to Kon for him to shoot a 3.  Then defense-wise, Im not ready to type the amount of questions I foresee in his ability for guarding NBA SGs or bench SFs for that matter. Not that NBA players care to defend, but still..... I just feel he's a bad fit for the current hornets, trades are taking place tho... Liam to me is a decent comp for Kon and he fell some, but was a 29 overall pick. Still around 13-21 was the good solid range for Liam and I thought the same for Kon. This is just a classic case of I need to see it. It add to this, Kon is like garlic. Ball is like sugar and Miller is like flour. Mix it together and chef Lee is not going to get me to eat that dish..... Honestly I don't know why Im this vocal about Kon. In past years I would be patience and not post and see what the kid has. The other side, insert classic white boy terms here- _____, ______, _______< etc >. Hornets do desperately need them. His crafty back door cuts, his willingness to stay a extra 2 hours to refine lees plays, keep playing with bruised limbs. I heard from many reports he's mentally tough and hornets by all gods need that. God they are such pussys.  I hope Im wrong and if so, I will give Kon his just props.
