SMH at this contract!

The major problem is we gave both of them this type of contract.

We let the Seattle Playoff loss scare us into paying for 2 high dollar RB.

Wait, wut, we let a game in 2006 impact decision making in 2012?  Don't think so.

What did happen was a) the mantra was always to pay to keep your first rounders, and b) Hurney was hell-bent to show they weren't cheap and was willing to do whatever it took to maintain the core of a 2-14 team.

Since that game the team has made a effort to have a 2 RB system.

This. The front office considered it the reason we didn't make the Super Bowl and not the lack of multiple WR options outside of Smith. The Seahawks didn't start the trend of bracket coverage on our 89 and forcing the other players on the roster to score in the passing game or anything.

Nah.  You guys have short memories.  That 05-06 team had 2 really good RBs.  That didn't start the 2 RB trend.  In fact, Carolina has generally had 2 good RBs on the roster since Foxy's first year when he signed that Lamar guy from Miami and they drafted Deshaun Foster.

Before that Davis was still getting the bulk of the carries. After you started to see a shift to almost equal carries for 2 backs. Then Foster was out they drafted Stew and became a full 2 back system where they were switching RB'S every series or every quarter. Which stress the point in having 2 highly paid RB instead of one main back and a cheaper back up.

I asked this dumb question in the Free Agent thread but I suppose it's more appropriate here. Forgive my ignorance but is it possible for Stewart to void his contract, assuming he would, to become a free agent?

Umm.. we were down to Nick Goings who struggled vs 8 man boxes in the NFC Championship game... DeShan Foster was injured in the Bears Playoff game, maybe you should wiki it?

The only way Stewart isn't playing in Carolina making big bucks is he redoes his contract, in that case he's still in Carolina just not making as much. No reason for Stewart to do that though, he has the team bent over a barrel. If they don't give him the option bonus his cap hit goes up nearly 7 million more for this season. If they give him the option bonus then his cap hits go up in future years because of the additional option money which acts similar to a signing bonus.

The only way out of his contract mess is to either take a huge hit this season and next season by cutting him or he willingly redoes his contract.

Cutting him would pretty much mean a losing season this upcoming year because of how bad the cap would be.

Everyone needs to get over it, he's here for at least two more years at the minimum. DeAngelo is likely here for once more season as well.

I don't believe he can "void" his deal without doing something against the terms of the contract he signed. Probably crazy stuff like being thrown in prison or getting injured while jet skiing, and even then the team is voiding his deal, the team is. They can only restructure the deal, outright release him or trade him. That's it.
