Panthers sign coaching staff to extensions

None of this means McDermott will be here of course if he is offered a HC job in the future.

The play calling is really the key here.

The play calls on the goal line repeatedly against the 49ers quite possibly cost us a Playoff win.

I suspect that Shula would agree with you. I am sure he will learn from it and do better next year when we return to the playoffs.

The people riding Shula's nuts saying he should be fired are probably the same people who said the NFL Coach of the Year should be fired after 3 freaking games.

Many are the same folks. Conversely some of us defending Shula and suggesting he will learn and improve are the same guys who said the same thing about Rivera. This staff not only are good teachers but they are open to learning and growing themselves.

it's every year with the same nonsense fire a coordinator because he doesn't have the tools to succeed..........same guys said the same about mcdermott.......then we got a couple stud dt's and boom #2 overall defense......give the hate a rest

Exactly, give him some offense weapons to work with and if he still falls flat on his face get back with me. Until then I don't want to hear it.

Can I ask a question? When Shula ran those same plays against San Fran, Rivera hears the calls he gets from his coordinators right? Could Ron have not disagreed with the predictable play calling or do coaches not do this? I mean sometimes this season even us fans have seen what the play is before it's called, if we see it so obvious surely the opposition players coaches do too.

Those were also the same calls that we successfully completed throughout the year.  But  nobody was complaining when they worked.  Also, I believe Cam even said that on one of the plays that he audibled from a pass to the run play, but realized too late that it wasn't going to work.

But to answer your question, yes, the HC typically does hear the calls on the headset and can change the call.  Fox was notorious for doing that during his time here.  However, I haven't heard of Rivera changing plays like that.

    • so the current Carolina Panthers are a team that is in a similar situation that the 2022 Carolina Panthers were in about this same time exactly 3 years ago. & after the 2022 season & missing the playoffs because of a last game of the season loss to the Tom Brady led Bucs  Carolina Panthers brass then thought hey you know what we are just a Qb away from taking that next step & becoming a playoff contender in 2023 .so of course that's what the Panthers proceeded to do when they traded up to the #1 overall pick in order todraft Bryce Young .& here is history repeating itself as it often does & the Carolina Panthers are once again in a close race at the end of the season with Tampa Bay for the NFCS title in 2025  it's took what 3 years now to get back to where we started to begin with prior to drafting Bryce Young  &so tell me once again who is really holding this team back ? ...just saying hRi

    • Well, looking at it now I would agree that he should cede some of his power and focus on being a leader of an entire NFL program and becoming a better strategist. And leave the details of implementing that to the people he has hired to work under him.  But I am just some guy that gets his info 3rd hand and works off of incomplete info, using assumptions to draw conclusions.
