You have an opinion, Red, but don't try and act like no one else's opinion is based upon arguments that are just as compelling, and perhaps even more-so than yours. You're better than that...Oops, no you're not.

Let's not start this personal thing again please.

You said height matters "not so much" to the professionals, I think that is a stretch to say the least.

Yet people want to run Steve out of town, and draft a 5'10 WR in the first round.

I don't think you are paying attention. People would love for Steve to stay but we need the cap room and hopefully he agrees to a paycut. We want to fix the cap not get rid of our best receiver. Gettleman might be forced to make that difficult decision in order to help the team as a whole. It isn't unusual to make a difficult decision on an aging receiver with a high cap number (see Anquan Boldin with the Ravens), it has nothing to do with his size.

No. I said not so much as you're trying to make it out to be.  Professionals aren't going to overlook Brandin Cooks' skill set unless they have a very good reason to do so, and I predict that his height is not going to be enough of a reason to drop him significantly down draft boards.

Seattle will be done with rice. its funny because they have a midget QB throwing to a bunch of midget WRs. Cooks numbers are hard to argue with. You cut his numbers in half and it still wouldve been good enough to be our best recieving threat last season. i want a play maker idc if hes 3 foot or 7  foot. we need to score TDs.

You can't just look at college production to predict success in the NFL. Demaryius Thomas didn't break 650 yards while in college, but you gotta be careful picking small receivers... The Giants have a track record of picking receivers over 6 foot, such as Cruz 6'1, Nicks 6'1, and Randle 6'2... I would put more stock in that than Gettleman picking the best playmaker

The combine isn't gonna make me want Cooks any more than before...people who use numbers from doing anything in a leotard are doing it wrong. I wouldn't mind him in the first if we could definitely get someone like Adams in the second or Coleman in the third. But I don't want the only new weapon to be a physically limited player. He can be a potent weapon, but only as a compliment in my opinion. We can't hope he can replicate Smitty's success because Smitty is a pretty rare case. The commentators mentioned that only 3 guys in the history of the game that ran 4.3 or better have ever had a 1000 yard season. Only one recently: Mike "Flash in the Pan" Wallace.

In short, I want someone Cam can throw fades and all the routes to. If we can get that guy (who can be a dependable target, not just some guy with the requisite size), then I'd be thrilled to also get Cooks. But I refuse to let a performance without pads on heavily influence any opinion on a football player.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
