Still loving Gettleman?

So in his first year he cuts Gamble, and forces Gross into a restructure.  Gamble retires.

In his second, Gross retires, G-Man treats Smitty like a has-been, and doesn't even bother with Munnerlyn.

Hurney was loyal to his guys to a fault.  Think Gettleman is doing it right, or is he the anti-Hurney?

12-4 in his first year as GM. Yeah, I'm good with him so far.

In all seriousness, the moves he's talking about making are ones that Hurney would never had or did make, which is ultimately the reason we were a mediocre at best franchise when he was at the helm.

So he cut a 30-something year old corner who had obviously lost the will to play (as evidenced by sitting out the whole year with a torn labrum and retiring the moment he was cut) restructured a left tackle in his 30s while the team was in cap hell from hurney, made an "evaluating" comment about a 35 year old receiver whose signature season was 10 seasons ago, and is holding firm on a 5'8 cornerback who seems to only be useful as a nickel corner and thinks he is worth way more than he actually is. Whats the issue here with any of these things?

I thought it was fairly clear that Gross restructured because he knew he was going to retire.

I'm fine with him for the most part. He's done good things here, and he's an intelligent football mind.

I don't think Gettleman is dumb enough to move Steve Smith. He just needs to be mindful of the media, and how they perceive comments, and create stories out of thin air. Like last year with Cam.

He played hard ball with Munnerlyn a year ago too, I think he'll end up re-signing.

Cyberjag is the guy that still wishes Fox, Turgovac, and Henning were still on our coaching staff. Nothing to see here.

Werent you just comparing him to Hurney saying he treats DEs like Hurneys running backs,

    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
    • Me, signing up for FanDuel Network, and then canceling FanDuel Network:
    • Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.
