Mitchell, Ginn may hit the market

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

His numbers speak for itself. 4 int, 66 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 2 FF. Solid ass numbers no way around it. Ill take Mike over those guys you mentioned and he's younger

That's really not the point. The point is not overpaying him for his services---especially under a tight cap---and whether someone else can do an adequate job behind our superior front seven.

G-man wants to sign modest contracts in terms of money and length for players, particularly during this period of cap hell.  He wants compromise.  if you don't want to do it his way and he deems you replaceable, then he's gonna let you go be a mercenary somewhere else.  At the very least, he will let you test the market.

Hopefully once Mitchell tests the market he will be back. If not, then I believe we will ultimately do better.

That's not a recipe for sustainable success. Guys in and out doesn't build chemistry. Maybe I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because 1 year contracts we had no choice to give because of our cap situation, but assuming that will eventually pass in the future, that's not going to work

I agree with you, but we are "cap challenged" as Gettleman puts it. We can't afford to pay premium contracts to anything but premium players.  Even still, if a GM and player prefer that the player stay, but there are marked gaps between what each perceives the player's value is, then the market is perhaps the best tool to use to gauge true value.

Overpaying is not a recipe for sustainable success either.  It is really the poster child for anti-success.

It's not Hardy's fault. He didn't force anyone to tag him. I'm sure he would have been okay with a longer, more expensive contract somewhere else.

The FO made the decision to tag him. IMO it was a good call.

I am not blaming Hardy at all. I respect that he has earned a big payday and will now see it. I also am not saying he is not worth a big contract. I just see him as a very expensive luxury that we really can't afford in our cap position.

I think the overall team would be better off spending that 13m on a LT and CB than a second stud DE. But, that is just my opinion.

If they stay Gman can't upgrade. He brought in a speedester and a guy with attitude that their teams didn't want anymore. Give Gman a chance to find 2 more that need a chance. So far has shone he knows what he is doing.

What I'd hate most about Mitchell winding up elsewhere is he really, really wanted to stay here.

It sucks when someone with that kind of enthusiasm isn't brought back :(

i think that's up to him.

just how badly does he want to be here? he knows our cap situation. he knows that we are the team that really gave him a chance to prove himself. same with ginn. we gave them both chances to show what they can do. if they can get paid big somewhere else, i say let them.

if they want to show some appreciation for the team that gave them their best shot to succeed, they'll work with what we can afford to give. otherwise, they can be replaced. there's more where they came from.

I don't get why people are so tied up over Mitchell.  I've viewed him as expendable but was very solid in his role.  Just because he was a guy on our d who had attitude inflated his perceived talents.  Good though but he may want more than we can handle given our focus elsewhere.

I've been saying this was going to happen. Rebuilt year is coming.

Almost a true rebuild this time.  We're not starting from square one or anything but Gettleman is assembling his squad with fatter funds to help him out in a more substantive manner than last offseason.

I am concerned. I really do not like the wait and see approach. We need to figure out hardy's contract, or trade him, tying up 46 million dollars in 4 players is absurd, and we will not be able to compete next year if we dont sign some of those 1 year guys who fit to longer deals.
