Panthers attempting to trade Steve Smith.

Nicks is not a replacement for Steve Smith. Not at all.

Not so sure about that....much younger.  Smith at 34 is slowing.  WR's usually go fast when they start to fade.

Again...not sure what their plan is.  But, Smith is not worth $7M per season and is not the future of this team.

Gett is trying to clean up the cap space and get this team ready to compete consistently in the future.  Hard decisions always come in that situation.

might be to show him how many teams are interested in him at that cap hit.

i dunno.

writing is on the wall tho.

tough choice and will be a very unpopular and uncomfortable one, but given our cap it might be the right one.

fortunately there are a lot of very good receivers available in the draft and FA. if you are going to completly rebuild your WR corps, this is as good of a year as you will ever find to do it.

If G'man does this, he better add some damn weapons somehow in free agency because if we send Cam into the season with jack poo for targets, G'man is gonna go from hero to zero in my mind.

I really don't think Gett loses too much sleep over what we think....myself included.

nobody should be shocked. the smokes been blowing, but some just didnt want to believe there was fire. we're about to get an overhaul at WR. couple vets and drafts

This is the kind of move you make once you're sure you have replacements, not before.

You pull the trigger on this and then get too timid to invest big at WR in FA and the best WR on the board when you pick is some 2nd round turd, then this backfires significantly.

Why this is even being discussed with Charles godfrey still here is beyond me

I think that the cap space this year is the more important goal....the pick would just be gravy.

Not sure what is going to come out of this.  But, it certainly looks like we are willing to move on without him.

Panthers would lose $2 million of cap space by trading Smith, which makes the idea of a deal weird. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/steve-smith/

Why would they trade or cut our only viable receiver? Talk about a hail mary.

Because he's an arrogant jerk who thinks he knows it all. Y'all thought Hurney made some bad decisions. Trading Steve Smith is probably the dumbest fuging move a team will make all year.

Depends on what we would get for him.  Doubt a trade happens.  But does give more support to the fact that cutting him (June 1 cut) could actually happen.

    • After last season, it was the same question. And the answer most people came to was "If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's gone." He made the playoffs. No matter how it was done, we made it to the playoffs. He's safe. He's going to have a chance to keep working this out, even if next season isn't a playoff one.  I think we'll do better next year than we did this season. There's something being built here.
    • The NBA is a very fickle league. Kon is one of the hottest rookies in years and beyond just his play on the court he is a very steady competitor and that translates to the rest of the team. That has been a glaring absence with the culture of this franchise through the bulk of the LaMelo Ball years that's just being completely blunt and realistic. The enigma of LaMelo Ball is he is entering year 6 and still either red hot or ice cold. We need him to find that sweet spot. Logic dictates the Hornets will want to see this core again next year. But the clock is beyond ticking at this point. It's put up or shut up. Especially considering what the Thunder managed to do recently. I'm hopeful they can keep these wins rolling in and get some much needed playoff experience under their belts which will help substantially.
    • I think as long as the Panthers are competitive with Canales they should keep him. Pepper needs to repair his/the teams image as a place prized free agents aren't hesitant to consider. Just dont do any crazy poo for a few years.
