June 1 cuts

So correct me if I am wrong but we can only designate 2 June 1 cuts.

According to this

http://overthecap.com/calculator/?Team=Panthers

It may or may not make sense for Smith to be a June 1 as opposed to a straight cut. Adds like $4M, $4M and 12M to the cap over the next three years. But a straight cut would be -$2.5M, $10M, $12M. Same savings just spread out differently

CJ, if we cut him, has a huge gain to the cap at $9M, $8M and $13M

Godfrey is $5M, $4M and $7M

Olsen is $5M, $4M and $2M

So we we use both June 1 designations or will it just likely be Godfrey?

Yeah with Smitty...If Gettleman isn't going to extend Cam this year then I think he would prefer the cap space in 2015.

Right?

Yep! Worse part is having to cut Smith vs other certain fat contracts! Would rather overpay Smith than JStew or Dwill!

Double Trouble better tip their agent well, oh wait, had to have been Hurney

We can cut as many players as we want June 1st, but only 2 can be done prior to June 1 and treated as if they were June 1 cuts.

I realize most already knew this, but just wanted to clarify for those that may not have been aware of these rules.

NFL rules allow teams to designate up to two released vested veterans as "post-June 1" cuts and spread those players' salary cap hits across two years.

I'm confused

The advantage of June 1 cuts is you spread the cap hit out over 2 years. And you can cut as many players as you like after June 1.

However, you can also cut a maximum of two players as early as today and designate them as June 1st cuts. There is no cap relief for the team until June 1; all it does is allow the released player an early start on free agency. It is a benefit for the player only. There is no benefit for the team.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
