I think a big part of this is not tying up future cap space with restructures or multi year contracts so we can actually have the resources to extend him.

Not to sabotage him

No, No No....That statement is to logical and makes to much sense. People on here want to hear that Gettleman is out to ruin the team and not try to clear up the salary cap to have money to sign stars like Cam and Luke, who will both be up to re-sign shortly. :)

DG is the anti-Christ,grim reaper, and a raging man eating cyclops all in one. He is a GM hired to fix a franchise run incorrectly for many years as reflected by our putrid record. We where so far in the hole when he got here that pulling a division winning team out his ass was a Herculean job and a minor miracle. Next year may not be as productive ,but when he finishes retooling the offense all this hand wringing and head bashing will be for naught.

You guys sound pathetic.

We just went 12-4, won a Division title.

I know it's been a miserable off-season so far, but we haven't even gotten to the Draft yet!

Look at last year, the sky was falling, every other Huddler was sure after this season Cam would demand a trade to Dallas (stretching a little here), we wasted our 2nd round pick on another DT?!, signed NO free agents worth anything (to the WR core, let alone the entire roster).........but what really happened...???.... Gettleman scrapped together a 12-4, division winning team last year with make-shift Free Agents and solid draft choices.

Say we draft a WR in the 1st round (ie; Cooks), sign James Jones, sign Cotchery and draft another one in the 4th... then what? I guarantee that WR core would produce better than the 28th ranked one did this past season... and with younger players who can grow into themselves with Cam.

I mean come on people, don't get so ahead of yourselves...Gettleman knows Hakeem Nicks, and Nicks has been known to be a Diva... do we really want that? I think Gettleman knows what he's doing, and the LAST thing he wants to do is SETTLE for average to above average players and pay them more than they're truly worth and strap this franchise for years to come .....like hmmm... Marty Hurney ...

KEEP F'N POUNDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, we can save A LOT of money by cutting CJ as soon as next offseason. Spotrac has his 2015 cap hit at 17.4 million, with a dead money hit at 6 million. Yeah, he may be gone.

Yup, the only one that hurts us bad if we cut them would be Stew.

It won't shock me to see CJ, DWill, Olsen, and Godfrey gone after this season.

Hurnamnesia (Hern am ne' zee uh) n. :  The inability to remember Marty Hurney or any of his actions in any way.  The symptoms are often characterized by an ignorantly incessant need to blame the current general manager for any and all issues, problems, and deficits created by the aforementioned Hurney.  Other side effects could include (in others) eye rolling, blank stares, or attempts to strangle, punch, or evade the sufferer.  Treatments, such as therapy designed to increase understanding of the salary cap and any drug that generally heightens awareness and football acumen have been known to be marginally effective in some sufferers.  For further information, contact just about any knowledgeable Panther football expert not named Joe Person.

I'm expecting Williams and possibly Stewart to shortly follow. Sad, but G-Man is eyeing the future not 2014.

DIng ding ding.  Hurney was always planning/hoping for the next season.

DG isn't looking at the next season, he is looking at the next decade.  That's how long we have Cam, after that it's starting from the bottom again.

Need to get our poo contracts off the books first, so we can become consistent later.

Everyone knows we're going to draft receivers, whether it's in the first or otherwise, so that's not surprising. The question is whether or not we will take a step back as a team because of lack of continuity, chemistry and leadership (or some combination thereof). Yes, it's going to take time for Cam to develop chemistry with his new crop of receivers, but lets not be hypocritical and expect any where near a 12-4 season when we know that this is the case, and the fact that rookie WRs rarely come in lighting the world on fire.  With the time and experience it takes to build a rapport between receiver and QB, along with a less than imaginative play caller your makes your guarantee much more of a hopeful exclamation or imagination than a prediction.

As for Nicks: Gettleman knew what he was before he brought him down here and offered him a contract, so let's not shuck and jive like Gettleman didn't want him.

Again, people need to give the Marty Hurney references a rest. They are just tiresome.

Stewart's dead number is 4 million larger than his cap hit in 2015...he's staying.

Deangelo's dead number is a few hundred thousand more...so again, doesn't do much to cut him. Saves a little money to keep him.

Olsen would save about 5 million, so yeah he could be gone.

Olsen is the reason they cut Smith. He is our #1 Receiver right now in games already.

    • I don't think it was fear of the unknown because he tried to hide the extent of the injuries that made him drop. After the drop, the reports I heard were that teams knew what was wrong with his knee and it was something similar to another athlete from a few years ago (honestly don't remember if it was even a football player).  That it was basically one of those things where he should be fine for a while, there isn't a huge concern of immediate injury risk.   But what he has going on with his knee is something that is degenerative and there's little chance he'll be able to play more than 5 or so years on it before he won't be able to play anymore. So basically it was teams knowing if they draft him, he's probably going to be only a rookie contract player and even if he's great, you might not be able to get use out of him on a second contract.  Which in turn makes the drop make sense, but I'm kinda surprised some contending team didn't take him late in the 1st, hoping he'd put them over the top on a SB run but then not even have to worry about giving him a big contract in 4 years too.
    • Depends if they see the writing on the wall with their roster and contracts and decide to bite the bullet and begin a complete rebuild and roster overhaul.  I have no clue why some franchises (IE us) refuse to do this and keep half assing trying to win 8 games or so.  Do it correctly, take your lumps and build a contender.  We shall see what loomis decides.
    • Each team plays 17 games.  I do not see why they don't just have each team play one international game per year.  Neutral site game, 8 home, 8 away.
