10 Players (only 7 on the roster) are eating 85.3 Million in 2014 cap space

And this is why we need someone like Gettleman on that wall for us.... Somebody has to be the ruthless, tightwad, bargain shopper for us. It is amazing to watch everyone freak out over what is shaking out here in free agency before the draft.

How does Gross still count against us if he retired?

Question 1.12

What happens if a player is traded or retires?

Answer: We already know that if a player is waived on or before June 1, the remaining signing bonus that has not been included in salary “accelerates” and is included in that year’s team salary. Acceleration also occurs when a player is traded or waived and picked up by another team. The new team is not responsible for any of the original signing bonus. The team that waived or traded the player is responsible for the accelerated signing bonus (in the same manner as described above).

In most cases, if a player retires, the remaining signing bonus that has not been included in salary “accelerates” and is included in that year’s team salary. Thus, the team will take an immediate salary cap hit of the remaining signing bonus.

No restructuring to CJ and Olsen? I have feeling both will be cut in next 2 years.

Restructuring is part of the problem. Pay now or pay later! When one restructures, they take off from base salary and turn it into guaranteed money.....making problems even worse in future years(on aging players)!

Lol at those that think players just graciously accept pay cuts on top of binding contracts.

Glad to see some of you are starting to realize the cap hell we are really in. I would rather be over the cap with wiggle room(reasonable signing bonuses) than this cap hell we are in

True but Gettleman did do some damage in his own right...His hand was forced but those restructures he did last year to get us under the cap are being paid for now and in some cases will continue into the future.

This is very true, but I really wouldn't classify that as Gettleman's "damage" more his "damage control", because lets be real, any GM would have had to have done the same thing in Gett's situation. it's the only way to try and eventually get us out of the hole in the first place.
