They can't be worse than gettis/lafell

Ahhh, the Jimmy Clausen / Matt Moore season!  Great memories!

Vets will be brought in at the right price.  Also, sometimes players just don't work out where they started (Mitchell, Ginn).

Either way, I do look forward to seeing how well these guys plays when the onus is on them to produce.  Because if they don't, they won't be here long.  They've had plenty of time to absorb the offense and get coached.  Frankly, I think the expectations for them are higher than any vets or rookies we bring in this year.

A chance is game time not sat on a practice squad or bought in for one snap! he was day dolphins don't think he saw the field much, doesn't mean he isn't any good, if DG says he's good then I take his word on it, people may criticise him for the smitty situation and lack of signings and whatever else since he's been here but he has pretty much hit a home run on all his signings in the draft and FA last year, I expect the same again this year, he knows talent more so than how to be a GM.

Ah yes, the Armanti argument.

If a player can't earn enough respect in practice to make the roster..... welp.

Oh.. I see now. These guys will be fine.

Don't think you do see.  I never said they would be good or fine.  That is an example of you putting words in my mouth so you could argue against them.  Everything is not black and white.  Basically, they should not be dismissed.  I have said many times that they are probably the 4th and 5th WRs.  Maybe one steps up to the third spot.

Gettlemen and Rivera have commented on these 2.  They evaluate talent for a living.  Perhaps you should challenge them and not your own comments planted in the mouths of intended debate partners.

Why, when we talk draft, do we say "In the fifth we could draft a developmental T (or WR or DT), then when we get developmental players as rookies, everyone wants to trash them because they are not playing?

I understand that they were released by other teams--Denver had a logjam at WR--the experienced guys are going to play in a Super Bowl run, not a 5th or 6th rounder.  Philly (last year) had some good WRs too at the beginning of the season.

Why not take a "wait and see" approach instead of a "they suck" approach?

Drafted by Philly and was behind a bunch of good receivers, then Miami stashed him on their PS where we claimed him

Yeh your not allowed to try and be optimistic on here, because smittys has gone most are on suicide watch and have no hope for he future of the carolina panthers whilst Dave Gettleman is in charge! SMH....

I guess most fans know about talent on an nfl roster you know being factory workers office workers and other menial jobs, who is Dave Gettleman to have belief that two rookie guys may make an impact.

I have a question that isn't thread worthy. What is the best site for looking at draft prospects or NFL players' draft profiles etc?

The nfl.com profiles have height and weight but not very detailed. I would like to see arm length, hand size, combine #s etc. What's the best place to look?

Based on their inability to get reps so far my guess is they are complimentary depth players at best. Hope is not a strategy. Wish these guys the best but I don't think the answer is currently on our roster.

My concern as well. How do you go from barely getting any reps and basically not making any appearances on the field in the regular season for a team, outside the Jets, that had the worst collection of skill players...to being possibly starters the next?

How does the coaching staff, having such little faith in them last year to continue to start Lafell and Ginn and Hixon, have complete faith in them this year to basically let the entire WR crew go?

The Panthers are either geniuses or the biggest idiots in the league. One way or the other we are probably going to find out.

1. It takes WRs a bit of time to adjust to the NFL

2. They weren't born knowing the play book.

3. When you are winning, you do not change the lineup

All valid points. But...

1. Does a WR that is dependant upon the very next season really need more than a few weeks to adjust to the NFL? Especially given that their team could use a better passing attack? The Panthers literally would be going from 0 to 60 with King and McNutt. Generally you slowly work your way unto the field and into the game plan, not thrown into action on a team that has playoff aspirations.

2. You don't understand the play book to the point that you can not even get in a couple of plays a game? If it takes them more than a few weeks to know our play book--in order just to see action--I have to question their mental capacity to be a contributing member of a playoff team's offense. Really, you need a whole year to learn the play book?  Do you have the mental capacity of a 5 year old?

3. This is the only reason I can let pass. But even then, if we are winning, why change the lineup now? Smith was our conscious decision to let go, and I am sure we could have found a way to keep Lafell and either Hixon or Ginn.

But like I said if King and McNutt are indeed our strategy--it would either be a brilliant move or a catastrophe. Either way we should get fireworks.

I think Gettlemen was possibly a bit critical of Ron's clinging to his veterans so much this season.  He was fighting for his job and probably not focused on 2014 much.  Gettlemen has stated, "Sometimes the answer is on your roster," "The young guys need a chance to play to show what they can do" and he has even mentioned King, McNutt, Klein, Bond, and Barner specifically.  I don't know, but it makes for some good off season conversation.

I don't think King and McNutt are really part of a strategy, but I think they are legitimate #4 and #5 WRs/Special teamers.   Either could step up to a #3 or even a #2 eventually, but as Gettlemen said, they need to prove it on the field first.   For example, he has mentioned Bond and I do not hear everyone acting as if he is the answer at RT or RG--simply because we have other players there at this moment.

We are going to add a WR in free agency and maybe 2 in the draft.
