Smitty venting on Twitter

Smith carried this offense on his back for over a decade. He wants to take a step back for years, but instead gets thrown out because he isn't able to do it anymore.

I hope we don't do this to Cam.

Smitty may have wanted to take a step back but he still wanted # 1 receiver pay, this  just doesn't work. He let it be known he wasn't going to take a pay cut,so that and his interaction with the team forced his exit.

The NFL is a tough  and hardnosed business, not a social club or retirement home for players. It is a place where some decisions may not suit the players that are released,or their fans  but due to circumstances it happens.

I hated to see him go but I was a fan of the team before he was here and I still am now that he is gone. 89 and the panthers are probably better off anyhow. The team can move on in another direction and save some money(which I'm OK with) while Smith gets to play for a team that doesn't need him to be the #1 guy.

Some of you need to get over it. Did you expect him to play here forever? You cant keep someone one the team just for old times sake unless you want a team of senior citizens.

Also, it's pretty easy to win the pr war when one side isn't saying anything at all.

Wait, what?

They made him move permanently out of Charlotte when they cut him?  And will never allow him to come back?

That's HORRIBLE!

yeah because i said they made him move permanently out of Charlotte..................and also said they would never allow him to come back

because working in Baltimore and living in Charlotte is WAY better then working in Charlotte and living in Charlotte

Steve was told last year to stop being a dick to other players. He didn't stop. It's not like he wasn't given a heads up.

People forget, Gettleman had this experience with Eli and the Giants, as [mainly] Tiki Barber, Shockey and others continually ridiculed Eli.

Eventually, the Giants jettisoned those guys and Eli blossomed. So Gettle Dog has experience first hand, seeing how nasty/crusty Ye Ole veterans can stunt younger players/leaders growth.

I've felt/noticed this about Smitty for a while myself. It's just that now, the Panthers have a GM who knows right from wrong (both on and off the field). So all this, is coming as a shock to many Panther fans (mind you Smitty's big contract, 5'9" height from a 6'6" QB, and his declining athleticism and production) as reasons for his [ahem] "untimely" departure.

Cry me a river.

When I signed up for the Navy these many years ago, I knew what I was getting into.  I didn't moan and whine and expect everybody to pity me because I had to move from station to station and leave my family for months at a time on deployments.  It was part of the damned job.  A job where you didn't hardly get paid poo.  Those were just the hard, cold facts that I understood because my eyes were wide open.  And the hard, cold facts of thousands/millions of servicemen and women.

Why y'all think that Smitty should have been kept immune from the hard, cold facts of a MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR NFL JOB is just fugging hilarious.

How did that work out for the giants

How edgy.

Not trying to be edgy, but thank you for thinking I am. That's just what happens when a player sucker punches his 2nd, which may have been his 3rd, teammate. Others can overlook it, but I lost a lot of respect for him that day. To me it doesn't matter how good you are on the field, that is just immature and a douche thing to do. Not to mention how he treats his other teammates verbally as well sometimes.

where is this even going?.......your comparing two very very different career fields..........you being in the navy and being a pro football player are not in in the same category. Then once again your looking at the money side of things, which has nothing to do with this.Your logic pretty much means just because he gets paid millions he shouldn't have an opinion or any other feelings towards that certain situation, money is not everything to some people and IMO i believe smith is one of those people.

    • Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.
    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
    • I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
