Rivera says Cam wasn't consulted in WR moves

I do believe he's that type of guy, but at the same time this organization(and this isn't on Gettleman, YET)hasn't proven that they are capable of building around him. Now you have a new GM in Gettleman who released Steve Smith, failed to retain Ginn, and failed to sign a young WR in Nicks. And also has failed to bring in quality offensive line talent. He values Greg Hardy over those moves that could have been made so it has to work for him.

The offseason should be about improvement and there's no doubt that as of right now this offense is worse than it was at this point last year. I heard the main priority this offseason was to surround Cam with talent, has that happened? Regardless of what the calendar says, it's going to be hard to do going forward.

If I'm Cam I'm not too confident right now, especially since it appears he doesn't know what's going on. That's why I believe he should at least be briefed on what the plan is going forward

i have to hope he is that kind of guy because if not his contract and Luke's will keep us as bottom of the barrell bargain hunters for a long time. we will be rehabbing FA prospects for other team for years.

Bringing back smith, ginn and lafell would have likely meant a worse offense though.  Greg Hardy was brought back because Greg Hardy is much more valuable than anyone on the offense not named Cam.  If Jerricho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood are still atop the depth chart after the first two days of the draft then there will be reason to criticize.

NFL General Managers don't.

Players play. Coaches coach. General Managers sign and release. That's the way it is pretty much everywhere in the league...

...and that's exactly the way it should be.

no , not really. Consulting is just asking questions and GM's, just like any good Business man, asks questions. I think you may not understand what consulting means.

That's not exactly made, up. Carolina has been the target of many offseason jokes in the media this offseason, not to mention every poll. Even the players have made comments

So you want to cite the media as authority now? The same media you're constantly complaining about when it comes to Newton?

The media aren't football people. People who actually make a living in NFL front offices know how this works.

When Cam's contract comes you guys remember this is a business. The same ones screaming it's a business are the same ones that are going to be crying when Cam has to be paid a premium just to stay.

Yea because Cam will be in his mid 30's with diminishing skills and will be getting more than what he's worth. You are the voice of reason.

A lot of guys in here drinking whatever gettleman is selling while everyone in football is asking what he hell are the carolina panthers doing. Generally there are 2 sides to a argument and if you look yo your left and right and no one is on ur side your probably wrong.

Yeah because everyone was saying we were going to win the division and go 12-4 last year and they were all right!!!!

What???

They said last year we were going to be last in the division and only win 6 or 7 games??  You mean the talking heads were completely wrong like they were when they said Rivera sucks and should be canned??

Well I am sure they are going to be right this year because they are almost always right??

What??

You mean they are often wrong and write things just to cause controversy and make a name for themselves.

But but but.  It has to be true because they have consensus and we all know that if most people believe it, it must be true.  Stop trying to use the facts here to confuse me.  I have my opinion and all logic does is get in the way..........

I think you have no clue how an NFL front office works.

(your assertion that Steve Smith dictated his own release is pretty solid evidence of that)

Can you provide any examples of GM's asking 4th year QBs which of their teammates should be cut and which should be resigned?

This fanbase is full up with "go along, to get along" types. No matter how much some of you are trying to force the "humans are a commodity" angle...that DOES NOT MAKE IT SO! You have to find a medium between business and respecting your performers.

Like the Steelers and Patriots do?

    • Ppl want to trade Melo? Am I wrong for thinking that would be a bad idea?
    • Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.
    • It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves. I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already. But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point. But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too. In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables. But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long. As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person. But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?
