Rams, chiefs, eagles, bengals, falcons and Dolphins all have qbs eating up a huge amount of the cap. The saints cap situation shouldn’t be compared to anything and requires like differential equations to figure out. it’s dishonest at best to compare them head to head. The panthers currently have what is supposed to be the best advantage in the NFL: a high first round qb on their rookie contract. The panthers have thrown huge money at two guards, reupped moton, have (somehow) spent real actual money on the center position, and we’re even gonna pay Thielen before his wife put her foot down. To put this another way, what is the defensive equivalent of signing hunt and Lewis? What is the offensive equivalent to letting Shaq, Jackson, Chinn, Luvu walk?

Something has to give on QB pay. 17 of the top 20 and all of the top 11 contracts in the NFL are QB contracts. Damn near every starter in the league that isn't on a rookie deal is making salary cap destroying money. How many of those guys are actually delivering the level of play that warrants that? I would strongly argue that unless you have a legit MVP caliber guy you're better off investing heavily in the rest of the roster and creating a great place for a guy in a rookie contract to thrive but that's the fan perspective that wants to compete for SBs. From the front office/coaching staff standpoint they're trying to keep their jobs so it's safer to pay the hell out of that mid-tier guy than it is to roll the dice on being great. Yeah, that mid-tier guy's contract is probably gonna catch up to you and make life tough in a couple of years but that's a problem to deal with in a couple of years we gotta worry about the now right now. That's the piece that some of these media guys advocating for picking up Bryce's option aren't grappling with. You'd be talking about spending nearly 10% of next year's cap on Bryce Young. Let me say that louder for people in the back... NEARLY 10% OF NEXT YEAR'S CAP ON BRYCE YOUNG. You absolutely cannot do that.

Starting with Rhule we adopted this mindset that we could “coach up” players with superior athletic traits. That mindset has failed us every time.

It’s not just the panthers FO/coaches. Look at people on this board, or almost any of the talking heads. everyone has their different reasons for staying on this sinking ship. Whatever you speculate as the reason at the top of the Panthers organization probably has some truth in it. when the owner picked the qb, and he picked a coach to train the qb, and everyone on the team knows you can’t criticize the qb, here we are.

Yeah I don’t mind supporting your #1 pick so they develop quickly but it’s nuts to have to keep making excuses for him. I don’t think he really even wants to be an NFL QB.

I'm conflicted with him. He's shown way more than Allar/Klubnik/other preseason hyped who've struggled, but he is trending down right now. I still like the tools. A bit Darnold-ish IMO. Mateer & Mendoza may be the only ones who end up declaring with the high ceiling. Sellers and Moore may stay another year.

to me, the second half of last season, post-benching. I thought he had turned the corner but it was just because we were out of playoff contention already at that point.

All you have to do is get any kind of rush on him and he looks very pedestrian. He pads his stats against lesser competition too. I am hoping his dad drafts him to the Saints so that we are not tempted.

With the way QBs have magically gotten better when they left here I wouldn't fully count him out...on another team lol

i agree Teppers ego has turned a really bad situation into a catastrophe .& moreover as a result no one wants to work with or for an egomaniac like David Tepper who is heavily involved in the descion making & as long as this franchise is controlled by Teppers analytics & PFF fueled ego telling him that he is somehow right even when he is clearly wrong year after year .then yes this franchise will continually find themselves in the same or similar situations as they are currently in & possibly even worse. if nothing changes then nothing changes & the Panthers did not become the least talented team in the NFL by mistake. unforutantenly we cannot fire the owner & can only hope that David Tepper ego will allow him to truly step away from the descion making & hire possibly a better GM to replace Dan Morgan moving forward ...just saying

Not sure about that, they seemed all in the other day. As did mac and bone today. The typical making excuses, talking about last year and pff and using Steve Young (yeah they really did go there) Baker, darnold and D Jones. While totally overlooking the graveyard of busted qbs that never got better. I mean just go back to 2019 and work your way to now and you will an incredible amount of flops. But damn I cannot quit the mac and bone show its too comical to not listen to, the homerism on display is pretty damn impressive. I mean comparing bryce to steve young is peak.

Morgan solved the DJ Johnson problem by cutting him. He can cut Bryce and solve that one too. "Sorry Dave, Bryce is unavailable for Sunday."

A couple of years ago I heard former NFL player/scout/analyst Bucky Brooks give a great talk on QB evaluation. He said that you classify most starters into two categories. 1) Wagon Pullers: These guys make everyone better as soon as they get under center. They don't have to have elite skill position players or an elite O-line. As long as the talent is average/slightly above average they'll always have you in playoff contention. If you have great talent they make the team a SB threat year in and year out 2) Need the Wagon to pull them: These guys are game managers. Some are even a notch above that. They don't make a lot of mistakes and can usually keep you in games by not turning the ball over and making timely throws when needed. However, they need ideal circumstances: The WR need to be really good; the offense needs to have an excellent O-line to produce a good running game and provide solid pass protection. They also need a solid defense that keeps the team in games because these type of QB's are not built to oversee an explosive offense week in and week out. Bucky says you can win with both, but you have to know what you have and make sure you build a team that can work with the quarterbacks skill set. Too many players QBs in the NFL are being paid like they are wagon pullers, but they actually fall into category #2. When things aren't ideal their weaknesses quickly become evident. At this point in his career, I'm not even sure Bryce falls into category 2. Even with ideal circumstances, I don't think he would ever be able to lead a strong downfield passing attack that could stress a defense between the hash marks, and that restricts what an offense can do against teams with strong defenses.

I honestly think they are going to stick with Bryce. It's year 3 for him. He shouldn't need any motivation. He's either got it or he ain't. We are going to ride him to a top 3 pick and send his ass packing

I mean he would have to fully have his head up his ass to not see how limited his offense is and yeah that run play on 3rd down was as obvious of a public signal as it gets. It's honestly crazy how much we have normalized our 4th head coach in 4 years basically being forced to play a QB he had no part in drafting and instead inherited. Yes we did technically hire him to "fix" Bryce Young but wtf was he or anyone else going to do to change Bryce Young's size and lack of physical talent. And Bryce Young won't go anywhere near the weight room now three fuging offseasons in a row but we're trying to set an example for our roster by deactivating WR's and cutting players for performance issues. Regardless of if Canales pans out as a head coach the structure and process of this franchise is a complete and utter joke and that begins and ends with the Tepper's.

We're to the point that our only hope is horse poo luck. That Tepper hits on a scratch off lottery ticket that these third rate candidates that are willing to work for him are and that we fall backasswards into a QB. Hoping for organizational competency at this point just isn't logical. We just have to get really damn lucky.

I've said it numerous times but I honestly think we're to the point that we can't get anyone who has other comparable options or has reasonable expectations of being a top candidate within the next year or two and I honestly think the last GM and HC searches we conducted we conducted knowing that because it didn't seem like we even seriously pursued hotter candidates. I wouldn't be surprised if we touched base with agents and were basically told thanks but no thanks.
