Best draft picks ever at each slot (4 Panthers)
WhoKnows replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting. -
Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am. His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue. Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever? Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.

Goes a nice way after the Rantaneen fisco! Also It seems Nino put in a good word for us and it helped finalize it for him.

I think Dan’s blinking disorder started after the 2003 SB… and I love it.

16 ounce curls.

So what I heard wasn't wrong, he just took less term and money to sign with the Canes. Nice!

Breakouts: Smith-Wade, JT, and Wharton. Possible's: Legette (he already had the speed but his technique, footwork and hand skills should all see improvement), Zavala, Wallace. Slight Chance: Barno (pretty good chance he lights it up in preseason) I wouldn't count on it: DJ Johnson (Was always a reach but flashed a couple times since he was drafted. Could be serviceable depth...could also be cut)

Love to see it

What Winnipeg does to a MF LMAO

Don't have them yet. Keeping an eye on stubhub/resale places as we get closer.

Hertl, a better 4th D and another solid goalie please.
-
He’s essentially our 7th round pick from that draft. That would give us 5 starters with a possible 6th from one draft. That’s bananas.

Not all the teams existed for the entire history of the draft, so you wouldn't really expect it to be even. Aside from the fact that exact draft slot is pretty trivial, so there's going to be tons of snubs on picks with lots of candidates. -

Little disappointing but not surprising considering our draft history. Just numbers wise you’d expect to 8+ picks per team and one of our 4 never played for us. -

This is some deep draft trivia. No idea what picks have had HOF'ers and which haven't. -
Great post. The fact that you/anybody can say this about a Panthers draft class and not immediately get torn apart by rabid posters is a good thing and gives me hope for the FO and team in general. I think all of these guys are going to get meaningful snaps and contribute heavily. This was pretty big also. Basically got a starting CB with our 7th rounder. While the verdict is still out, my July hopium is overflowing.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/versatile-2nd-db-named-panthers-154026075.html Smith-Wade's ability to play corner, nickel and safety makes him valuable to a young defense trying to rebuild after finishing last in the NFL a year ago. "Chau took advantage of an opportunity,'' coach Dave Canales said. "He made tackles. He had an opportunity on an interception, and he made it.'' Our defense has got to come alive for us to have a chance of winning our Division!

lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay. Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now. If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss. But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.
