Well, the Niners just doomed themselves to mediocrity
tukafan21 replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wanting that type of play and being okay with paying $55 million a season for it are two entirely different things. If Bryce were to become the same player Purdy has been, then he would surpass my expectations of him and I'd be okay with him as our QB of the future (and again, I've long been one of the bigger anti Bryce people here who doesn't think he is capable of being our long term solution). But in no world would I be okay with paying him THAT kind of money, paying an average starter elite money is just a terrible decision. -

I don't think they can overcome that mistake. Hell Lance was a hiccup compared to this. He isn't going to be able to carry that price tag and now he is going to have to do just that. Lol. The NFL is so dumb sometimes. -
So, one could say that T-Mac is quicker than someone of his size should be and while he might not be quite as fast as Evans in the 40, he's more athletic than Evans. If only someone, anyone, could have seen that in his tape and mentioned that on here, hmmmmmmm In all seriousness, hearing he tested in the 89th percentile in that drill at his size is crazy impressive. Just tried to look up the times of the top WRs in the league right now, most don't show at time for that, but I did see Chase ran his in 7 seconds flat. I honestly don't know how true this is, but I do remember seeing one breakdown of his tape and the person said he has quiet and efficient feet. That he's really good at using the minimal steps possible to make his cuts and because of that, it actually makes him look slower to the human eye because you don't see all the quick chop steps that the guys like Tyreek would use in their running. I'm still in a state of disbelief that he's a Panther and it might not fully hit me until week 1 and I see him out there making plays for us, still feels like Goodell is going to just be like, "YOU GOT PUNKED!!! hahaha, he's a Cowboy now, suck it"

I'm guessing this is a knock on Salaun but I thought they took the right route since it was a weak draft, he has huge upside, and they don't want to win right now.

Jalen Hurts has entered the chat. Eagles get away with it by having a cheap defense. Remains to be seen if the 49ers can pull it off -

I don't think people here want to be in QB purgatory. We have been pining for a superstar like Cam again. -

I mean....his 2025 cap figure was like $5 mil. This smacks of bad reporting, TBQH. -

Imo, Purdy is better than Jones, not as good as Hurts. My point was that Jalen Hurts was thought of as a qb who would doom Philly to mediocrity. I remember us losing a game to him during the Rhule term and some of the post were "we lost to a team qb'd by Jalen ffing Hurts" I think Purdy is a adequate qb. He has proven that with the right team around him, he can win. It might be hard to win Superbowls, but then only one team a year wins those anyway. The forty niners have to do what they can to put their team in the playoff discussion and then let the chips fall. Constantly reaching for the next great qb is almost always a losing proposition. -

As long as people continually hype up the QB position, they will continue to get all the money. -

Haha people here act like we haven’t wished for this type of QB play since 2018. We would have cut off our arms for a Purdy. Such a weird fanbase that never knows what it wants. I remember when many complained when Cam got his second contract lol -
I think they already have it right. A few years back, they added in an additional wild card spot and that opened the landscape quite a bit. Keep it how it is now, make it so that divisions still matter. Or come up with a secondary league and start relegations for continually losing franchises.
-
Honestly, this makes the most sense as to why the NFL would be resistant to this change.
-
Yeah. As a wild card team. Washington won the division at 10-6.
-
no doubt but flip that. The current system insures that there are "regional" games in the early weeks. maximizing the reach of playoff football. If all of the WC weekend for a conference took place on the west coast they are reducing the "reach" of their hype machine.

Hard to say with London--he never ran--combine or pro day. Here is what AI says, and it is always 100% accurate: Drake London's 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine was not recorded because he was dealing with a fractured ankle at the time. While he didn't participate in the 40 at the Combine or his pro day, his coach said his 40 time was estimated to be between 4.4 and 4.53 seconds. Some sources also list his 40 time at 4.58 and 4.6 seconds Unless you are running 9s all day, top end 40 speed is rarely reached. I have always looked at the 3-cone drill. At his pro day, TMac ran a 6.86--pretty good, actually. For context, it is faster that Rome Odunze (6.88) who ran a 4.45 40. Odunze is 6'3" and weighs 216, fwiw, and is considered a very good route runner with no wasted motion. Mike Evans 3-cone was 7.08. To put it in a broader context, through 2022, with all NFL prospect 3-cone drills combined, a 6.86 puts TMac in the.89th percentile- Now consider the fact that he is 6'4" and 220. We might have something here. '

Sure. All you have to do is fall backasswards into a serviceable late round QB on a rookie contract and then spend a ton of resources on offensive pieces and have an offensive guru of a head coach. That all falls apart when you pay the serviceable late round QB like an elite franchise QB. His arrow is pointing downward because the offensive pieces surrounding him are starting to fall off. They're paying him for the guy he was when he was surrounded by elite pieces. When he was surrounded by merely good this past season he was an average to below average starter. And honestly, that's precisely what he is. Paying him this type of money they're gonna struggle to surround him with good, forget great. Within two years this move is likely to be looked at as a massive folly. -
Didn't Drake London run in the 4.5s too? That ain't slow if it's real game speed and not combine prep speed.

Didn't the Giants win their last Super Bowl after going 9-7?
