Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart. I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl. He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off. One of the worst throws I ever saw. His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery. All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.
-
And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own. He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else. That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground? He does similar things all the time. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it. It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that. He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t. Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn. That wasn’t a great pass. The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it. We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw. Crazy.

The Dowdle Mirage - Play Calling Problems
uncfan888 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
This thread is dumb. But I do think canales gets too cute with play calling and I don't think he's a good coach -
2 bad teams played yesterday and one lost. Both teams are still bad today. Bryce is a big part of that. It wouldn't have been a close game if DC would have just gone rage rushing from the start. The Panthers would look so much better with just decent WB play. No way to avoid that fact.

The Dowdle Mirage - Play Calling Problems
Proudiddy replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Don’t get me wrong, when guys go off for career days like Dowdle just did, it covers a lot of blemishes - hence, the discussion still surrounding Bryce and how we won in spite of him. But, saying if you take away 6 plays and applying that logic is like the inverse version but the same thing as that poo Bryce-riders do with their “if the receivers had caught these uncatchable balls on these 10 passes, he would’ve had 749 yards passing today” and the hidden yardage bullshit. The plays happened. They were big plays. That’s what we want. Statistically, for most players, regardless of talent or position, big plays are the anomaly. So eliminating them when they happen to hyper focus on what the averages would be without them is wild, respectfully. -
McD gutting his defense to fund his offense is what is going to get him fired. That and injuries. No way I belive Tua makes it through a season and with Hill out that's a huge chunk of unhelpful cap spent.

Without his two turnovers this was easily a 2+TD win. Rico Dowdle cleaned up his mess. Dalton wins this game by 20+ points

When I see Tua play, I see Bryce in 5 years. I think that's Bryce's ceiling. Will his lack of athleticism, he won't be a top NFL QB ever. And just like Tua, he'll need a good to great O-line and star receivers to make it work. Personally I would rather take a chance on a rookie that has the potential to be great, like Drake Maye appears to be, not a point guard QB that can't elevate the players around him. I understand that some fans like Bryce, maybe because he isn't the typical alpha male QB or because he's so small, but in my opinion he's better suited as a backup QB that can come in the game when needed and you pray he doesn't turn the ball over. Yes he makes some good throws but he also makes some really dumb decisions

Drake Maye does seem to be the perfect example of what a future top 5 NFL QB looks like in his early years.

Wasn’t he here for the 2024 draft?

I wish he had thrown in some more of his zingers. Like a cat hangin' off the screen door! lol. He should seriously be in either a football movie or whatever kinda Madden video game crap they make nowadays -
Did the Panthers get Mike McDaniel fired now?
R0CKnR0LLA replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
He's essentially already fired, they just need someone to show up for the rest of the season and go through the motions. -

He still has an uphill climb, but a game like today helps. -
Oh, my... I didn't realize there was a Cardinals player that did the dropping the ball short of the end zone too.

Maye is the real deal. Outplayed Allen and suddenly Patriots look like they will challenge that division again

Dennis Cox and Chris Lea on performance today
Jackie Lee replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
We desperately need a real ILB green dot guy and a legit edge rusher so bad lol. Everyone else playing their roles would be fine. Derrick Brown and Jaycee are keeping us afloat for now. Everywhere else is actually solid depth/role players but nothing to write home about -

The offense can help them by getting a lead. I mean it was the Falcons but 0 points? That doesn’t happen in the NFL very often. I know the Falcons shot themselves in the foot multiple ways but the defense played a part in that 0. The NFL these days, teams are a work in progress for at least the first half of the year. We should see improvement continue for a little while. Throw Luke into any defense it is improved but this one is just waiting for that guy. A guy that could be like, Luke light, Temu Luke, would be a huge shot in the arm. -

so you all wouldn't have punted on a 4th and 17 when you had three timeouts and a chance to get the ball back? Odds of making it on a 4th and 17 are very bad. Odds of forcing a three and out are better. And if their defense hadn't committed a penalty, they would likely have gotten the ball back. -
I only heard him talk a few years back when he got the job and he seemed kind of out there.

I don’t remember Ealy showing this early. But I am old with leaky memory.
-
I knew that would be hard for him with his arm strength issues because the velocity deficit compared to to standard gives defenders more time to close. I got major disagreement bordering on outrage for pointing it out and I didn’t say I knew, I just speculated that it was a big question. People have to remember this is a league where they parse 100tha of a second in 40 times.

For anyone that's frustrated with the state of the Carolina Panthers organization, and needs a pick-me-up and a good laugh...
